Open Thread: Predict IU’s regular season record

  • 09/14/2012 8:44 am in

This contest is sponsored by Underground Printing. Visit them in Bloomingon on Kirkwood or at UGPIUAPPAREL.com.

This topic, unlike a year ago, is sure to produce a great deal of optimism.

It’s not that there wasn’t some optimism last fall — a couple of you accurately predicted IU’s regular season record — but expectations are sky high for 2012-2013 as some of the early preseason rankings having the Hoosiers in the top two nationally.

And so we open this thread again to get you on record with your prediction for IU’s record for the upcoming season.

Once again there are 13 non-conference games. 18 Big Ten games. A total of 31 contests. The schedule, for those who wish to give it a once over before locking in your prediction, is here.

Your reward? $50 to spend either in store or online with our friends at Underground Printing.

Here’s how it’ll work: This thread will remain open until the end of the month. Your guesses will then be locked in on October 1 and following the Michigan game next March, we’ll revisit the comments and pull out all of the correct guesses. Everyone that gets the regular season record correct will then be entered into a drawing for the prize.

Feel free to provide an explanation with your prediction, but please post the final record it as the first part of your comment. It makes for easier record keeping. Also, one entry per person, please.

    28-3…@MSU, @ UM and either @OSU or @Minny.

  • 27-4 should lose at msu, OSU, mich & one other unexpected. May not lose all those games, but will then lose something they shouldn’t.

27-4, Road games in the Big Ten are just too tough to get thrugh without some loses. I do see 13-0 in the non conference! IU b 12 over UNC

This is the best team in America. This team is as good and could be better than UK last year. We will go undefeated.

    won’t be punked 31-0

I spent hours yesterday searching and reviewing teams in the top 20. I will say Arizona may surprise more than pUKe or UCLA, they are loaded with studs and a quality coach. Florida is going to win the SEC. If the Hoosiers practices are truly similar to navy Seal training (BUD?), then I suspect our defense will have improved tremendously. I truly do not see us losing unless the entire team has a bad night. Let’s say Cody gets 2 fouls 5 minutes into a tough road game, I think Elston, Jurkin, Hollowell, or Perea can shore up while they lock down to keep us in the game until Cody returns. Heck, Sheeladipo will get pissed and carry us as CWat or anyone else in our endless scoring arsenal picks up the slack. Bring it on . . .

    5 losses

Drink the Kool-Aid, it is actually Cream & Crimson flavor – very unique and proprietary. Lol.

  • IUJeff

Not sure much stumbling can occur with the depth we have IMO. If option 1 is not working, option 2 or 3 will. I think it is possible to have one bad loss, only chance for more bad losses is if multiple Hoosiers are injured. A 3 seed would be a bad seed for the talent this team has. If coaching matches the talent level, IU will be a 1 seed.

  • IUJeff

It’s the glass half empt type folks. It’s in their DNA so don’t be too surprised. For every good there is un-good in equal measures.

Cody could stay one more year for back to back Championships! Look at Matt Barkley w/ USC staying 4 years or Christian Laetner w/ Duke – who was the last to win 2 straight. None of us truly know . . . the NBA money will always be there. Hey Hoosier students, set him up with a Hoosier Hottie – they warp men’s minds and influence our decisions beyond imagination . . .
    Lmao.

31-0, then lose in the B1G title game, then win the NCAA. I would hate to see us go into the NCAA tourney undefeated, too much of a target. VBG.

That one has me a little worried for some reason as well.

  • IUJeff

Man, I hope you guys are right about Cody.

  • Geoff_85

Yeah the Big 10 is good, but you don’t know how good our defense is.Why do you think they won’t be much improved this season?

Im thinking that we will go 27-4. I think we are capable of doing better, but I think we will lose 3 away games in the B1G and one more somewhere else along the road.
