Ferrell, Lyles will visit Bloomington this weekend

  • 09/22/2010 9:59 pm in

Two of the top high-major prospects in the state will be on campus this weekend as both 2012 Park Tudor point guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell and 2014 Indianapolis Tech forward Trey Lyles will take unofficial visits to Indiana.

Ferrell (pictured) has taken several trips to Bloomington in recent months and will do so again this weekend, according to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star.

The 6-10, 210-pound Lyles, a versatile forward who picked up an offer from Indiana in early August, will visit on Sunday, according to his father, Tom.

The Tech freshman is considered one of the top 25 prospects nationally by The Hoop Scoop.

Gary Harris and his family were in Bloomington this evening for dinner with the entire coaching staff

Yogi seems to visit IU quite a bit, a good sign I think.

  • The anticipation of the next commit(s) is killing me. Hopefully something good happens this weekend

  • Jmfriedman

Would be surprising if he didn’t go to IU at this point. Not revealing info source, but that is the “word on the street”

  • kentuckyhoosier

    says who???????

  • Jubilee

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this tweet….

As often as Yogi seems to have been to Bloomington, I just get the feeling he really wants to pull the trigger but he’s going back again and again just to make sure there isn’t something he’s missing before he makes the decision. Hope I’m right because, in what few times I’ve been there, I can’t imagine what negatives there could possibly be—gorgeous campus, great facilities, top-notch school, beautiful women, nice town…

Has Lyles grown? Last time I saw his name listed he was 6’8″.

  • VS13

I did. Very interesting. Usually the whole family doesn’t meet with the entire staff….

  • Ryan Goods

can anyone answer how many times Yogi has been to campus? not including camps but just unofficial visits? I feel like he’s here almost every month if not multiple times a month… could be good news!

if yogi commits before Cody, we get Cody

if Cody commits before yogi, we get yogi

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

don’t forget “yogi’s”. i think this should be a real selling point. ctc “you have a restaurant named after you already”

  • Last time Yogi was at IU (for the Towsen football game), he tweeted that people were chanting his name. So, he was just in Bloomington a few weeks ago — which is a good sign since he’s returning so soon — but it also speaks to the fact that it was a positive experience… why return so quickly if you didn’t have a blast?

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

i just deleted the post i was writing for fear of a jinx. i’m not even superstitious.

  • Ryan Goods

that’s exactly why I wish Cody’s visit involved some opportunity for us to chant his name. I’m afraid he’s going to have a really welcoming experience at UNC’s midnight madness.

Let’s hope that’s not the case!!!

Hmmmm…maybe there was more than one reason that the entire coaching staff went up to see SD-W the other day. Come on Yogi, just pull the trigger already. Don’t wait until the train is starting to pull out and then try to run and catch it, get on now while there are still good seats available.

Yogi while your there with your future team mate go ahead and step out on the court and lob a few to him just to get a feel for how cool that is going to be and then imagine 17 thousand plus people going nuts when you do it on top of that !! Plus you’ll be helping to seal the deal with Lyles, AE can’t do all the recruiting, besides he is busy helping seal the deal with CZ the OTHER guy you could be alley ooping the ball to. How sick is the thought of that ! The possibilities are endless and the sky is the limit.

IT’S INDIANA BABY !! JUST DO IT !!

  • HoosierNshaker

How about life size cut outs or big heads of “Yogi” and “Cody” that we can throw up at the football games when we chant their names??? hahaha

  • Ryan Goods

if that can be arranged I would likely go crazy

sweet! does anyone else think yogi looks baby faced? on a random note, finally finished the iu mix i had been working on for days. took around 12hrs total. not gonna link it yet cuz i hope for it to get its own post when things are slow on ith (as i think its the best iu mix i have, and will do for some time, not to mention the hours.) but if anyone wants to watch it, feel free to yt it

As time passes the more I appreciate the leadership Ron Patterson has shown through this whole process. He’s the first big ticket Indiana young man of the 2012 group to commit. He’s in Indianapolis too where the highest concentration of IU grads live in the United States. We should publish the Broad Ripple schedule on the board when its available and red and white out the Broad Ripple stands every time he plays this year. It would be our treat really because he’s fun to watch. Ron has committed to us, let’s commit to him and show him what Indiana University Basketball is really like. It’s the fan base that the Colts and Pacers build their model off of, it’s really what makes Indianapolis tick. It’s Indiana, let’s show this young man he’s part of the family now.

  • I’ll thank you after he commits.

  • As this process has gone on for so long, I become increasingly convinced that something like people chanting Cody’s name won’t have much of an affect. I’m not saying that it won’t matter at all, but I really think that’ll be at the bottom of the list on things that swayed his decision. He’ll be closer to home at IU, he’ll have Cook Hall at IU, he’ll get to play with friends (AE and hopefully Yogi), he’ll get to be one of the centerpieces in a rebuilding process that would earn him the entire state’s love and admiration (except a small few in Indy), and he’ll get plenty of PT his frosh year (there’s no James McAdoo at IU). As long as he doesn’t shy away from the pressure that will accompany being “the chosen one” of sorts, I think IU is the place.

  • Looking forward to it!

  • I think I’d rather go to see Buss at Broad Ripple than watch the Pacers, ha ha!

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

    Did you see them out?

That’s good news. This Lyles kid is a big time prospect already. Yogi would be a huge land for IU but what would Lyles be, enormous?

  • Anonymous

Just looked it up on YouTube–FANTASTIC! The switch from b/w to color is perfect. I’m so hyped up now. Once it gets posted on here, that’s the sort of thing that you want recruits to stumble across.

  • ArtistFormerlyKnownAs_Aceman07

    Amen to that!!!

Cmon Yogi make ‘the decision’. You have already made B-town your second home so why not make it your primary residence for college. Chances are you will end up the best pure point guard here since Isaiah Thomas. And chances are your commitment will seal the deal with your buddy CZ. This plus Perea will surely make up the top class in the nation. There are just too many positives not to be a part of the class of 2012.

And Lyles is now 6-10 and may be headed for 7ft with time to grow. The thought of having him down in the paint with Pete Jurkin is making me drool.

  • DangerDan

His relationship with his brother is interesting to me. If they are close I could see him favoring UNC to be able to spend time with big bro. If they are the type that are so competitive with each other I could see IU where Cody could be his own man and take his own path. Does anyone know how they get along?

  • guest

what do we type in at youtube to find it?

  • Anonymous

If there ever was a reason for Basketball fans to get to the Football game this weekend, this is it. Football is a recruiting tool for basketball if the atmosphere at the stadium is excellent. Then if you just happen to spot these young men, make sure to show them a bit of “Hoosier” love.

  • From what I understand, they get along, but Tyler didn’t go play with Luke, so there’s no reason to assume that Cody must play with Tyler. Cody has said that his brother’s presence at UNC is a draw, but he also noted that it would only be for one year. So he can play with his brother for one year (sitting mostly on the bench) at UNC, or play with his friends — Yogi and AE — for 3 and 4 years, respectively, if he goes to IU… you figure that’s got to put IU on an even playing field with UNC.

  • CutterInChicago

I am heading down to Btown for the weekend, maybe I’ll try to get Yogi and Lyles to stop by the ol’ CiC tailgate and explain the virtues of Btown… then again I’d rather have the student population selling the place than an aging ol’ fart like myself.
Weather looks perfect for a victory over the Zips on Saturday

It is a little bit of a tradeoff for Cody to go to UNC for the sake of playing with his brother. He gets one year with him… a year he will spend on the bench instead of starting at IU. UNC cannot win with 8 mcdonalds all-americans and we are on the rise as everyone will see this season. I just don’t believe there is enough upside to a single season of playing with someone even as close as a family member. Fortunately the Zeller family has been through the recruiting process enough that Cody will go wherever gives him the best opportunity to succeed in life whether that is a career in basketball or with a business degree. I feel they will conclude that Bloomington is the best choice in both respects.

Share a link if you find the Broad Ripple schedule. I’ll take you up on this great idea.

Ferrell tweet this morning: Hopefully getting a car today.

Please be from mom and dad and not that crooked dude in Lexington.

    Sincerely, IU fan.

Nice analysis. You nailed it. (ok, I’m biased because it’s pro-Cody)

This is a great site it gives a complete schedule for just about every high school in IN boys and girls. You can go back and look at past season and the team’s record and it gives a map of where the school is and how to get to it. Only drawback is it doesn’t give any individual stats on players.

  • Pkbinsassoc

Any chance Yogi would go to a college without a scholarship offer? I know nothing about his family and their finances. Just thinking Park Tudor tuition is as much, or more than, IU’s, but do not know if Yogi has a scholarahip to PT. Could IU hand out all their scholarships before Yogi commits and than Yogi come as a full tuition (or Academic Schoalrship) player?

  • Anonymous

Oops, I may have linked you to the schedule for Park Tudor but the schedule for all the others are on the same site. Computer savvy will never be listed as an asset for me.

  • Anonymous

thanks IUMike. maybe you’re an IU Prophet… and you just ‘know’ that Yogi will be committing soon. In that case, we’ll need to attend both Park Tudor and Broad Ripple games. I can’t wait to show up and support Buss.

  • Yogi Kelin Zeller

Yogi, dude how many dates do you and Crean/IU have to go on before you become an item? Time to commit, don’t waste your time with Michigan, they suck, it is a football school, and none of your friends will go there. Ignore Butler unless you want to fade away in obscurity in the Horizon league. Just commit and go on with your life of being droolled over by IU fans for the next two years.

  • Outoftheloop

No chance. A scholarship is the tangible reward for great ability and great promise. It says we want you and we love you! Yogi has a scholarship at IU NOW, he just has to pick it up!

  • Outoftheloop

Get that video clip on U-Tube, and ask these recruits if they want to be an INDIANA STAR!! We want you and we love you Yogi and Trey! Just say “YES”!

  • Outoftheloop

It is up to you to start the chant inside the stadium “Y O G I…Y O G I…” Then after about 15 minutes switch to “T R E Y…T R E Y…” We should have two new recruits before the day is done!

  • Outoftheloop

WOW what a great idea! Ron Patterson is/was the KEY!

  • Outoftheloop

At UNC Cody would be the FIFTH name chanted-they have a potential class of Studs lined up for 2011: #1 Rivers, #8 McAdoo, #14 Hairston, #15 Thomas, #20 Zeller and the class of 2010 was ranked #4 with #2, #10 and #32 plus a very good college player/transfer who is immediately eligible. At Indiana Cody is #1, with his buddy Austin Etherington, and he can choose to include a third guy of HIS choosing if he wants to, or just wait for the great group of 5 new Hoosiers from 2012!

  • Outoftheloop

Big Bro will only be at UNC for ONE year max. If he tries the NBA after his junior year is finished, he won’t be there at all. Cody knows all of this better than you or I do.

  • Outoftheloop

    But when? This weekend-hopefully!

  • 11th and Done (Dunn)

it was awesome. i was inspired to do some push-ups right afterwards. i have no clue why, i just felt the need.

  • Outoftheloop

Great information! A BOMB-Yogi commits this weekend- then an avalanche-Perea and Harris commit in days, followed by the volcano erupting with Cody Zeller committing on November 1 or before! Then we can settle down and WIN SOME GAMES!!
