Is Ben Allen transferring? Yes, he is.
(UPDATE: It’s confirmed. Allen is indeed transferring.)
Well, according to Pete Diprimio over at the Fort Wayne News-Sentinal, it’s looking like the Australian isn’t returning to IU this year.
All signs point that Allen, a native of Australia, will not return and join the Hoosiers. Instead, he’s expected to transfer, perhaps to St. Mary’s in California.
Allen, who had spent part of the summer playing for the Australian national team, was set to return to Bloomington later this week. Classes will begin on Monday.
I’ve always been a bit of a BA fan, but he just never fit in anywhere. Allen came here as a 3-point threat, but with his size and IU’s depleted front line the last few years, he was thrust into a post position, one he never wholly became comfortable with even after all Kelvin Sampson’s efforts. And with the Hoosiers actually having some size upfront for the first time in a while, Allen just has nowhere to play now.
If IU makes an official announcement on this, we’ll let you know.
Thanks to ITH reader Kelin for the tip on this one.
