At the Buzzer: Indiana 90, Washington 80
Quick thoughts on a 90-80 win against Washington:
How it happened
Defense was optional in the first half Sunday night in Assembly Hall. By the first media timeout, Indiana and Washington were tied at 15 and the Hoosiers were 5-for-5 on 3-pointers. The offense never slowed down for the remainder of the half, either. The Hoosiers shot a scorching 18-for-27 from the field (66.7 percent) and were 10-for-10 from the free throw line. The offense was led by Tayton Conerway, who scored 18 points in 14 minutes and Conor Enright, who poured in a season-high 11 points in 16 minutes. Indiana led by as many as 14 points, but the Huskies also had quite a show offensively. Washington shot 5-for-14 on 3s as Quimari Peterson made 3-for-6 from distance and led the Huskies with 11 points. Indiana also limited Washington to just four offensive rebounds and eight second-chance points and went into the locker room leading 52-40.
The Huskies made a move early in the second half, cutting the IU lead to four at 54-50 on a jumper by Desmond Claude with 16:04 left. But the Hoosiers pushed the lead back to 12 at the under-12 media timeout with a 15-7 run that was fueled by the play of freshman Trent Sisley. The freshman from Santa Claus had 10 points during the run to push the lead back to double figures. By the under-eight media timeout, the Hoosiers led 77-63 and a Lamar Wilkerson free throw out of the break extended the lead to 15. The Huskies, however, went on a 6-0 run to cut IU’s lead to 78-69, prompting a timeout from Darian DeVries with 5:54 to play. After Washington cut the lead to six at 78-72 on a Zoom Diallo layup, Wilkerson’s 3-pointer pushed the lead to nine at the final media timeout. But the Huskies would get no closer than six the rest of the way as IU improved to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play.
