IU football defensive lineman Kellan Wyatt out with “long term” knee injury
IU football defensive lineman Kellan Wyatt, who suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s win against Michigan State, will be out for the foreseeable future.
The 6-foot-2, 257-pound transfer from Maryland has been an impactful addition this season for the Hoosiers on the line.
At his Monday press conference in Bloomington, Curt Cignetti announced that Wyatt’s injury is considered long term.
“Wyatt suffered a knee injury,” Cignetti said. “Right now it looks like a long term injury. I’m not sure if we will see him the rest of the season.”
Through seven games, Wyatt has 12 solo tackles, eight tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He’s IU’s fifth-leading tackler overall with 27.
He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s win against the Spartans.
With Wyatt out, Stephen Daley will see more time moving forward.
“He’s a guy I really wish we had a couple years,” Cignetti said. “Because he’s a tremendous athlete. Once he learned the defense, he’s really making fast progress.”
The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday at Memorial Stadium against UCLA. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on FOX.
