Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU sports stories of the past week. 6-Banner Sunday is written by Ari Shifron.
With No. 4 IU football on its bye week, basketball opened its season with two easy victories against low-major opponents.
Also, this week’s 6-Banner Sunday features a rundown on former Indiana hoops players now playing elsewhere and a look at how women’s basketball has performed thus far. As usual, we will conclude with a look at the rest of the Hoosier sports scene, led by men’s soccer, which won a Big Ten title last Wednesday.
Here is what is in this week’s edition:
• IU basketball dominates Eastern Illinois in opener
• Hoosiers rout Bellarmine to improve to 2-0
• A look at how former Hoosiers are performing at their new schools
• Women’s basketball beats FGCU and Southern Illinois to open season
• Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Roundup
Banner #1 – IU basketball dominates Eastern Illinois in opener
IU basketball fans got their first chance to see the team last Monday evening against Eastern Illinois in their season opener at Assembly Hall. It was domination from beginning to end as Indiana won 91-57.
After the game, coach Darian DeVries spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Ryan Corazza wrote The Minute After, Alex Bozich provided five takeaways and Zach Horwitz wrote a column.
Banner #2 – Hoosiers rout Bellarmine to improve to 2-0
Basketball returned to the floor just a couple of days later to take on Bellarmine Thursday evening. It was much the same as game one, with the Hoosiers easily defeating the Knights, 92-69.
After the game, coach DeVries spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Corazza wrote The Minute After, Bozich provided five takeaways and Horwitz as well as Ian Plaskoff put together columns about Darren Harris’ strong play and the lack of a go-to-scorer overall, respectively.
IU returns to action on Monday Night in its first real test against Syracuse in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The contest tips off at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and plenty of tickets remain.
Banner #3 – A look at how former Hoosiers are performing at their new schools
The Hoosiers have had much roster turnover over the last few years. As a result, 14 players who once donned the Cream and Crimson are now playing their college basketball elsewhere.
Inside the Hall compiled how each one of these guys is doing with their new team early on.
Banner #4 – Women’s basketball beats FGCU and Southern Illinois to open season
The men were not the only basketball team to open their 2025-2026 season this week. The women did the same and picked up two easy victories as well in Assembly Hall.
On Tuesday, Indiana beat Florida Gulf Coast 79-50 before thrashing Southern Illinois 96-55 on Friday. Their next game is also on Monday night, but in Bloomington against Bradley at 7 p.m. ET on BIG+.
Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, Corazza came on to discuss IU’s basketball results so far.
The Back Home Network has many shows. As a result, it was on air several times this week with programming.
Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup
• Men’s soccer beat Michigan State in Bloomington for yet another Big Ten title on Wednesday.
• Volleyball dominated Iowa on Friday.
• Field hockey beat Rutgers in the Big Ten tournament before falling to Northwestern to likely conclude what was their best season in many years.
• Wrestling beat Lock Haven but lost to Lehigh.
• Men’s Tennis competed at the Big Ten individual championships.
Thanks for your continued support of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall. We’ll be back next weekend with a new roundup.
Now go enjoy yourself a 6-Banner Sunday.
