Quick thoughts on IU football’s 23-16 overtime win against Minnesota at Memorial Stadium in front of 54,695 fans:
Key moments
IU’s defense creates turnover to help jump start the offense
The first two drives for the IU offense generated just two total yards of offense. The Hoosiers broke through on their third drive, which came after Byron Baldwin Jr. sacked Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey, forcing a fumble.
IU, trailing 3-0, took over deep in Minnesota territory and needed just two plays to cash in off the turnover. Josh Hoover found Nick Marsh for a 9-yard touchdown pass to give the Hoosiers a 7-3 lead at the 6:42 mark of the first quarter.
Flea flicker touchdown gives Minnesota a 10-7 lead
With Indiana’s offense unable to sustain drives and numerous special teams errors, the Hoosiers were unable to create any separation in the second quarter.
The Golden Gophers capitalized on Indiana’s mistakes with some trickery that lead to a touchdown. On 1st and 10 from the IU 39-yard line, the Gophers executed a flea flicker and Drake Lindsey found Roman Voss for a deep touchdown pass. The touchdown gave the Gophers a 10-7 lead and left the Memorial Stadium crowd stunned.

Wilson’s second drive captaining the offense leads to points
With Hoover benched to start the third quarter, Grant Wilson’s first drive leading the IU offense failed to advance past midfield.
Wilson’s second drive, however, took the Hoosiers down to the Minnesota 30-yard line before Nico Radicic converted a 46-yard field goal attempt to tie the game.
It was the first make of the afternoon for Radicic, who had his first attempt blocked and his second attempt miss. The field goal tied the game at 10 with 2:13 to play in the third quarter.

A botched red zone trip
With Minnesota leading 13-10 after a 51-yard field goal from Luke Drzewiecki, Indiana looked poised to regain the lead. A 47-yard completion from Wilson to Charlie Becker had the Hoosiers in business at the Minnesota 28-yard line.
Two plays later, Lee Beebe Jr.’s 13-yard run advanced the Hoosiers into the red zone. On third and 9, it looked like Wilson had a touchdown pass to Shazz Preston. But a review overturned the completion, forcing the Hoosiers into a field goal attempt. The snap on the attempt, however, was fumbled, and IU didn’t get the field goal attempt off, giving the Gophers possession with 9:11 to play.

Hoosiers and Gophers trade 60-yard field goals in the final minute, sending the game to overtime
In the game’s final minute, Drzewiecki nailed a 60-yard field goal to give Minnesota a 16-13 lead with 19 seconds to play.
Indiana, however, had an answer. After a 33-yard completion to Charlie Becker from Wilson on the first play of the drive, the Hoosiers mistakenly did not call a timeout and the clock continued running before an incompletion by Wilson. That forced Paddy McAteer to come on to attempt a 60-yard field goal, which he nailed to tie the game at 16 as time expired, sending the game to overtime.

The Hoosiers had possession first in overtime and Wilson connected with Becker for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the first play.
On Minnesota’s possession, the Gophers drove to the IU 3-yard line and faced fourth and goal. Tobi Osunsanmi sacked Lindsey on the game’s final play, securing the win for Indiana.
