Key moments

Indiana turns a pair of first half Michigan turnovers into points

In a low-scoring first half, Indiana scored two field goals after Michigan turnovers.

Michigan quarterback Tommy Carr fumbled just past the midway point of the first quarter and it was recovered by Isiah Jones. The Hoosiers drove deep into Wolverine territory on their ensuing possession but settled for a field goal by Nico Radicic.

Early in the second quarter, Amare Ferrell intercepted Carr at the Michigan 23-yard line. The Hoosiers couldn’t move the chains over the next three plays and another Radicic field goal made it 6-0 with 9:31 left in the half.

The two field goals were the only points of the first half.

Josh Hoover’s interception leads to Michigan’s first points

Hoover picked a poor time to throw his first interception of the season.

On third and five from the IU 35-yard line, Hoover threw an incomplete pass to Nick Marsh, and Zeke Berry picked it off and returned it 37 yards to the IU 13-yard line.

Four plays later, Trey Butkowski, who had missed his first two field-goal attempts, connected from 29 yards to cut IU’s lead in half, 6-3.

Michigan ties the game at the end of regulation

The Wolverines started their final drive from their own 39 yard line with 7:32 remaining.

Indiana’s defense kept Michigan out of the endzone, but Butkowski’s 26-yard field goal as time expired in regulation tied the game, sending it to overtime.

The key play to keep Michigan from scoring a touchdown was a Rolijah Hardy sack of Carr for a loss of five on third and three from the IU three-yard line.

Hoosiers strike first in overtime and then hold Michigan to improve to 7-1

It took Indiana only two plays to score in overtime. Hoover completed a 21-yard pass to tight end Brock Schott on the first play of overtime and then rushed four yards for a touchdown on the next play to give IU a 13-6 lead.

The IU defense, as it did all afternoon, held steady when Michigan took possession in overtime. On the final play of the game, Carr’s pass attempt to Salesi Moa on fourth and 9 fell short, sealing IU’s seventh win of the 2026 season.

Offensive standouts

It was an afternoon to forget offensively for the Hoosiers. IU did rush for 131 yards, including 68 yards for Turbo Richard and 56 by Lee Beebe Jr.

The most notable reception of the day for Indiana was the 21-yard catch by Schott in overtime to set up Hoover’s touchdown run.

Defensive standouts

Defense won the game for Indiana. The Hoosiers finished with 10 tackles for loss on the afternoon. Tobi Osunsanmi and Rolijah Hardy each had two sacks.

Ferrell had the aforementioned interception and Jones had the fumble recovery.

Overall, IU held Michigan to 224 yards and only three yards per play.
