IU football running back Lee Beebe Jr. joined host Rhett Lewis ahead of this Saturday’s matchup against Western Kentucky on the Under the Hood podcast.

On how it feels to be back and contributing again:

“It feels great. It feels great. First of all, I just want to say thank you for having me on, and yeah, it was great. It was great. I put in the time and the efforts just to get back on the field and when I finally hit that field, it was a very emotional moment, but it was a great moment.”

On how he took in last year’s national championship season and used it for fuel to get back and make an impact this season:

“Well, during last season, from my standpoint, it was great just seeing all the guys just get together and just pull off what we did. 16-0, that’s amazing, amazing record, National Champions. It was a great feeling and it was great just seeing those guys go out there, compete every day, come back to the facility, go 100% in practice. It was just great to see all that and I really want to try and translate that and just take what KB (Kaelon Black) told me, what Roman (Hemby) told me, what those older guys told me and just try and get these young guys in the running back room going, just trying to keep that standard.”

On his performance against Howard:

“It felt great, and you can’t do nothing but credit your O-line for that. So it was real. They deserve all the credit, me and Turbo (Richard). We just hit the hole whenever it was open and we had success with that.”

On how he and Turbo Richard feed off each other and work off each other:

“Really just whenever one of us has an explosive play, we just feed off each other’s energy. We just feed off that. And I feel like that is what helps us have that success in the run game.”

On being a part of the kickoff return success in the first two weeks:

“It’s a great tone setter, honestly, and it’s a great way of momentum for the whole team and not just the offense, but also the defense as well. Our whole sideline gets pumped up and we’re just all ready to go out there and just go to war.”

On what he sees with Josh Hoover:

“I just think Josh is a warrior. He’s the actual dude. And when he did get his helmet snatched off, I was in the game, and I looked at it, I was like, oh my goodness.

“I was like, he’s still in the game? I was like, oh yeah, this is my quarterback right here. So he definitely is a dog, he’s definitely tough, and you can see it, he just loves the game.”

On Curt Cignetti’s messaging to the team each week to keep them ready:

“Well, he just really just tries to keep us humble and just keeps reminding us, just never get comfortable with success. You always just want to keep striving for success and you never want to just be constant, if you know what I’m saying. So we always want to try and excel and increase our standard and all that, yeah.”

On what’s at stake against Western Kentucky this weekend:

“Well, I like to treat every opponent the same. So Western Kentucky, Howard, North Texas, I treat every opponent the same and just treat every game like it’s a championship. We’re trying to go out there, we’re trying to dominate and we’re just trying to come out with that win.”

On building on the run game production from the Howard game:

“We just need you to keep improving on alignment, assignment, execution, honestly. I think that’s our biggest point of emphasis. We want to continue on doing, just make sure I line up right, making sure the line blocks the right people, make sure they double to the right people, make sure the mesh between the quarterback and the running back is perfect, have great ball security and all that.”
