IU football is ranked No. 6 in preseason AFCA coaches top 25 poll

The preseason AFCA coaches top 25 college football poll was released Tuesday and Indiana is ranked No. 6.

The Hoosiers were No. 20 in the preseason coaches poll last season before finishing 16-0 and winning the CFP national championship.

Indiana, which was No. 1 on 14 ballots, was edged out by Notre Dame for the No. 5 spot in the poll.

Ohio State is the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the preseason at No. 1, followed by Oregon at No. 2. Georgia is No. 3 and Texas is No. 4.

Also ranked in the preseason from the Big Ten: USC at No. 14, Michigan at No. 16, Penn State at No. 17, Washington at No. 19 and Iowa at No. 22.

Illinois and Nebraska received votes.

The Hoosiers open the 2026 season against North Texas at Memorial Stadium at 12 p.m. ET on September 5.
