Wisconsin transfer offensive lineman Joe Brunner commits to IU football

IU football added a key cog for its offensive line for the 2026 season today with the commitment of Wisconsin’s Joe Brunner.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 was the first to report the news. Brunner is considered one of the top interior offensive lineman available in the portal.

An All-Big Ten honorable mention selection last season for the Badgers, the 6-foot-5, 317-pound Brunner has one season of eligibility remaining.

Last season, Brunner started all 12 games for Wisconsin at left guard. In the 2024 season, he started 12 games as a redshirt sophomore.

A native of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Brunner was a highly sought-after recruit in the 2022 class. As a four-star recruit, he chose the Badgers over LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oregon.

According to Badgernotes.com, Brunner “posted a 65.6 offensive grade, per PFF, including a 71.5 mark in pass protection and a 63.2 grade as a run blocker across 694 offensive snaps.”

The Hoosiers now have 17 transfer portal commitments this month: QB Josh Hoover (TCU), RB Turbo Richard (Boston College), WR Nick Marsh (Michigan State), TE Brock Schott (Miami), DL Tobi Osunsanmi (Kansas State), DL Joshua Burnham (Notre Dame), DL Joe Hjelle (Tulsa), DL Chiddi Obiazor (Kansas State), DB Preston Zachman (Wisconsin), DB Jiquan Sanks (Cincinnati), P Billy Gowers (Hawaii), LS Drew Clausen (Iowa State), DB Carson Williams (Montana State), WR Shazz Preston (Tulane), DB A.J. Harris (Penn State), K Paddy McAteer (Troy), OL Joe Brunner (Wisconsin)
