Quick thoughts on a 78-58 win against Chicago State:

How it happened

Indiana put on a shooting display in the first half against Chicago State, effectively putting the game out of reach before the first media timeout. Lamar Wilkerson hit three triples by the first media timeout, as the Hoosiers opened a 14-7 lead early. The 3-pointers continued to rain down throughout the opening 20 minutes at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana made 14 of them, putting them just five shy of the program record for makes in the opening half. Wilkerson led the way with a 5-for-8 mark from distance and Nick Dorn wasn’t far behind with a 4-for-7 mark. IU shot 53.8 percent in the first half and scored 1.61 points per possession.

The shooting didn’t carry over early in the second half, as IU went 0-for-7 on 3s before the first media timeout and led 56-36 with 15:28 to play. The struggles continued into the second media timeout as the Hoosiers were 0-for-14 on triples in the second half but still led 62-42 with 10:41 to play. After 16 consecutive 3-point misses to begin the half, Dorn knocked one in with 8:24 to play to give IU a 69-44 lead. By the 3:04 mark, IU led 77-53 on a pair of Reed Bailey free throws. Despite a poor shooting performance in the final 20 minutes, the Hoosiers easily cruised to their ninth win of the season.
