At the Buzzer: Indiana 73, Lindenwood 53
Quick thoughts on Indiana’s 73-53 win against Lindenwood:
How it happened
It was an underwhelming first half offensively for Indiana on Thursday night. The Hoosiers shot just 12-for-32 from the field – 37.5 percent – which included just a 5-for-16 mark on 3s. Indiana was also uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball, committing seven turnovers. Lamar Wilkerson, one of IU’s most efficient scorers, was just 2-for-10 from the floor. A poor performance on the defensive glass didn’t help matters either, as Lindenwood rebounded 41 percent of its missed shots, which resulted in eight second-chance points. By the half, the Hoosiers led 34-18.
To open the second half, Lindenwood scored the first 10 points to get within six at 34-28 at the 16:57 mark, prompting a timeout from Darian DeVries. After Lions again cut the lead to six at 37-31 on an Anias Futrell 3-pointer, the Hoosiers began to get things going offensively and began to stack together stops. Over the next three-plus minutes, Indiana ripped off an 11-0 run to make it 48-31 by the under-12 media timeout.
The lead ballooned to 21 at 55-34 on a Tucker DeVries 3-pointer, his fourth of the night, with 10:14 to go. A Lamar Wilkerson 3-pointer, his first of the night in seven attempts, pushed the cushion to 24 just before the under-eight media timeout. Lindenwood would get no closer than 18 the rest of the way as IU improved to 5-0.
Standout performer
DeVries scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half. He was 7-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-10 on 3s and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in 34 minutes.
Statistics that stand out
Despite a comfortable 20-point win, Indiana shot just 37.7 percent from the field and only 32.1 percent on 3s.
