IU football running back Lee Beebe Jr. out for the season with knee injury
IU football running back Lee Beebe Jr. will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Curt Cignetti made the announcement of Beebe’s status for the remainder of the season in his Monday press conference in Bloomington.
“Beebe sustained a non-contact knee injury and will be lost for the season,” Cignetti told reporters.
Beebe suffered the knee injury in Friday’s 73-0 win against Indiana State at Memorial Stadium.
A transfer from UAB, Beebe had 27 carries for 209 yards and a touchdown this season for the Hoosiers. Last season at UAB, he had 166 carries for 885 yards and seven touchdowns.
For his career, Beebe has 1,486 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He still has another season of eligibility remaining and could also apply for a medical hardship waiver for an additional season of eligibility because he appeared in just three games this season.
With Beebe out, the Hoosiers could incorporate redshirt freshman Khobie Martin into the running back rotation. Beebe, Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby were largely splitting carries in the backfield.
In Friday’s win against Indiana State, Martin had 11 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Through three games, Indiana is averaging 307.7 rushing yards per game with eight rushing touchdowns. The Hoosiers currently have the No. 3 rushing offense in the country.
Indiana hosts Illinois on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium.
