With 11 confirmed players for the 2025-26 roster, what’s next for IU basketball?

The core of the IU basketball roster for the 2025-26 season is set after securing 10 transfer portal commitments in 27 days.

Darian DeVries had a whirlwind month, beginning on April 2 with a pledge from Conor Enright and ending with Josh Harris choosing the Hoosiers on April 29.

The IU staff assembled one of the nation’s top transfer portal recruiting classes.

Now just two players away from a projected roster size of 13 scholarship players, here’s how the final open roster spots for next season could be filled:

Luke Goode

It’s no secret that Goode, a Fort Wayne native, wants to return to Bloomington for one more season.

The 6-foot-7 forward was productive for the Hoosiers last season, averaging 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game.

Goode made 16 starts and shot 39.2 percent on 3s. Although Goode played in less than 30 percent of games in the 2022-23 season at Illinois, he returned for the final 10 games of the season and used his eligibility for that season.

After IU’s Big Ten tournament loss to Oregon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Goode made clear his plans to apply for an additional season of eligibility.

“I know it’s not the typical situation where people would ask for waivers, but we got some people working on it and I’d be very fortunate to play another year,” he said on March 13. “I think with everything now going on in college basketball and all the extra years they’re giving to JUCO kids and non-DI kids and all that, I think only playing 10 games in a season will be more than justifiable.”

Thus far, there’s been no news on the status of his request.

If the waiver from the NCAA is approved, Goode could provide additional depth on the wing for the Hoosiers. A career 39 percent 3-point shooter with 108 games of experience in the Big Ten, Goode could help bolster an already potent shooting attack on the IU roster.

Anthony Leal

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Leal is also applying for an additional season of eligibility.

The 2020 Mr. Basketball from Bloomington South, the 6-foot-5 guard appeared in 95 games over five seasons in Bloomington and participated in senior day activities in 2024 and 2025.

Leal owns career averages of 2.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 13.5 minutes per game. He is a career 36.4 percent 3-point shooter.

While Leal has not made any public comments about his attempt to get a waiver from the NCAA for an additional season of eligibility, the season he is attempting to get back is the 2022-23 campaign.

In that season, Leal played in 11 of Indiana’s 35 games. He logged a total of 24 minutes and also battled injuries.

Leal was the only scholarship player from last season to attend the introductory press conference for DeVries in March and it’s no secret that he loves Indiana University and the basketball program.

It is unknown whether the NCAA will grant his request for an additional season of eligibility, but it is a storyline to monitor this month.

A developmental freshman or another portal piece

The expectation is for Indiana to have a maximum of 13 scholarship players for next season.

If the staff wants to add another piece with eligibility beyond next season, it could pursue an available high school recruit or a portal player willing to accept a limited role with the goal of developing for the future.

Although the transfer portal closed on April 22, there is no talent shortage in the portal looking for a new school.

The IU roster only has five players with eligibility remaining beyond next season: Nick Dorn, Jason Drake, Jasai Miles, Josh Harris and Trent Sisley.

It’s also possible, although not likely, that a portal player who could significantly impact next season’s team will emerge as a target in the coming days or weeks.

Looking at the depth chart, the Hoosiers have depth at every position:

Guards: Tayton Conerway, Enright, Lamar Wilkerson, Jason Drake
Wings and forwards: Tucker DeVries, Miles, Dorn, Sisley
Bigs: Reed Bailey, Sam Alexis, Harris
