Quick thoughts on a 76-57 win against Miami (OH):

How it happened

It was another up-and-down half in Bloomington Friday night for Indiana basketball. The Hoosiers showed signs of stellar play, but it was short-lived. After leading by as many as 12, Indiana reverted to old habits, allowed countless open 3s and led by just three (39-36) at the break. Turnovers were a major issue for the Hoosiers as they committed nine, which led to 15 points for the RedHawks. Miami went 7-for-16 from the perimeter in the first half as four players connected on 3s. One Hoosier, Myles Rice (14 points), scored in double figures in the opening 20 minutes.

Indiana took advantage of a cold shooting start to the second half for Miami (2-for-9) to stretch the lead to eight at 50-42 by the under-16 media timeout. But the RedHawks continued to play harder than the Hoosiers and pulled within five at 50-45 at the under-12 media timeout. Out of that timeout, Luke Goode connected on three free throws to give IU a 53-45 lead with 11:27 to play. The Hoosiers then stretched the lead to 11 on a Trey Galloway 3-pointer – his third of the game – with 7:29 left that forced Travis Steele to take a timeout. The lead ballooned to 17 – 67-50 – on a Goode 3-point play with 5:11 left. The lead grew to as many as 20 as the Hoosiers won their third straight and improved to 7-2.

Standout performer

Oumar Ballo stuffed the stat sheet and finished with 14 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots in 28 minutes. Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers with 19 points, Rice added 17 and Galloway finished with 13 in 30 minutes.

Statistic that stands out

Miami scored just 21 second-half points on 7-for-30 shooting.
