At the Buzzer: Gonzaga 89, Indiana 73
Quick thoughts on an 89-73 loss to Gonzaga:
How it happened
Indiana’s nightmare trip to the Bahamas continued on Thanksgiving Day. The Hoosiers spotted the Zags an 8-0 lead early but battled back for a brief 18-16 lead at the 13:15 mark on a Mackenzie Mgbako 3-pointer. However, the prosperity and energy from IU were short-lived. Gonzaga feasted on the offensive glass, Indiana was soft in the paint and the game got out of hand quickly. The Zags rebounded 56 percent of their missed shots in the opening 20 minutes and scored 17 second-chance points. After it was 33-31 with 8:11 to play in the first half, Gonzaga ripped off a 24-8 run to claim a comfortable 57-39 halftime advantage. The Zags scored 1.37 points per possession in the first half.
The Hoosiers never seriously challenged Gonzaga in the second half as they dropped their second straight game and fell to 4-2. Indiana surrendered 89 or more points for the second straight game and will play in the seventh-place game in the Battle 4 Atlantis Friday at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN2 against the loser of Davidson-Providence.
Standout performer
Oumar Ballo finished with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 32 minutes.
Statistics that stand out
Indiana surrendered 1.2 points per possession, allowed 23 second chance points and also allowed Gonzaga to rebound 39 percent of its missed shots.
