A look at what IU basketball is paying for its non-conference “guarantee” games next season
Indiana released its full non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season on July 9.
The slate, which includes 11 games, features eight dates considered “buy” or “guarantee” games.
A “buy” or “guarantee” game means the program pays an opponent for a home game with no return game as part of the agreement. Typically, these games are against low or mid-major opponents.
Here are the eight dates for next season that fall under this category:
• vs. SIU-Edwardsville on Nov. 6, 2024
• vs. Eastern Illinois on Nov. 10, 2024
• vs. South Carolina on Nov. 16, 2024
• vs. UNC-Greensboro on Nov. 21, 2024
• vs. Sam Houston State on Dec. 3, 2024
• vs. Miami (OH) on Dec. 6, 2024
• vs. Chattanooga on Dec. 21, 2024
• vs. Winthrop on Dec. 28, 2024
Via game contracts obtained via an open records request, here is what Indiana is paying for its 2024-25 non-conference games at Assembly Hall:
• The contract with SIU-Edwardsville will pay $100,000.
• The contract with Eastern Illinois will pay $100,000.
• No compensation is listed in the contract with South Carolina for the game at Assembly Hall on Nov. 16.
• The contract with UNC-Greensboro will pay $100,000.
• The contract with Sam Houston State will pay $100,000.
• The contract with Miami (OH) will pay $100,000.
• The contract with Chattanooga will pay $100,000.
• The contract with Winthrop will pay $100,000.
Last season, Indiana paid between $90,000 and $105,000 for each guarantee game and this coming season, it’s paying $100,000 to each opponent.
