Indiana freshman Jalen Hood-Schifino will practice on Thursday, according to Mike Woodson.

Hood-Schifino has missed Indiana’s last three games with a back injury, but has been ramping up his activity this week.

“Well today we’re going to start him out on the floor and see if he can go, practice,” Woodson said Thursday morning. “The last few days he’s kind of shot around, done some things. And he’s moving around. So today, we’re going to let him bang a little bit and see where he is tomorrow.”

The 6-foot-6 freshman from Montverde Academy is averaging 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 28.1 minutes per game.

Hood-Schifino’s availability for Saturday’s game at Kansas will be determined over the next 48 hours. Indiana and Kansas will tip at noon ET at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

“Well again, you’ve got to be patient with it,” Woodson explained. “And I think the player itself will lead you in the direction that he wants to go. From a medical standpoint, I think he’s fine in that regard. But again, when you can’t do the things that you are used to doing on the floor or move around like you are used to, like you normally do, then that’s a problem.

“And that’s what he was experiencing. The last few days he’s been on the floor shooting and moving around and got a good workout in our off day yesterday. So now we’ll see, ‘can he handle the pounding a little bit today in practice?’ and then see how he feels tomorrow.”
