John Pelphrey, the head coach for Indiana’s season-opening opponent Tennessee Tech, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Pelphrey’s positive test was reported by Matt Denison, who hosts The Hoosier Report on WXVW in Southern Indiana. Indiana is scheduled to play Tennessee Tech on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

According to Denison, Tennessee Tech assistant coach Marcus King will serve as acting coach on Wednesday as Pelphrey will not travel for the game.

On his first radio show of the season on Monday night – which aired before Pelphrey’s positive test was reported – Indiana coach Archie Miller said IU was “crossing our fingers” that Tennessee Tech would make it to Bloomington for the season opener.

An IU spokesperson told Inside the Hall on Monday night that the game is still scheduled to be played.

Tennessee Tech is expected to arrive in Bloomington on Tuesday.
