Trey Patterson, an Indiana recruiting target in the class of 2021, committed to Villanova on Thursday night.

The 6-foot-8 forward, who took an official visit to Bloomington last October, chose the Wildcats over Indiana and Florida.

The announcement did not come as a surprise as the Rutgers Preparatory School (N.J.) forward registered multiple picks for Villanova in the 247Sports Crystal Ball in recent days.

Patterson announced his pick just after 7 p.m. ET on social media.

His decision will only intensify Indiana’s pursuit of forwards Trey Kaufman and Mason Miller as the Hoosier coaching staff looks to add to its 2021 class, which already includes a commitment from center Logan Duncomb.

Before trimming his list to just three schools earlier this week, Patterson also considered scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Maryland, Memphis, Rutgers, Tennessee and UConn.

Indiana offered Patterson a scholarship in June of 2019 and spent significant time recruiting him, including trips to New Jersey by Archie Miller and assistant coach Bruiser Flint.

As a junior, Patterson averaged 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as Rutgers Prep finished 27-2. He recorded 19 double-doubles.

He’s the second commitment for Villanova in the 2021 recruiting class, joining center Nnanna Njoku, the No. 82 player in the 247Composite.
