Indiana ranked No. 34 in initial KenPom ratings

The new KenPom.com ratings are out for the 2019-2020 season and Indiana will begin ranked in the top 35 nationally.

IU is No. 34 in Pomeroy’s ratings, which is sixth highest for a Big Ten team. Last season, Indiana was No. 28 to start the season and finished No. 52.

The rest of the Big Ten is ranked as follows: Michigan State (1), Purdue (7), Ohio State (11), Maryland (16), Michigan (21), Illinois (35), Iowa (41), Penn State (43), Wisconsin (45), Rutgers (63), Minnesota (81), Northwestern (87) and Nebraska (96).

The Hoosiers sit at No. 43 nationally in offensive efficiency in the preseason, according to Pomeroy, and at No. 28 in defensive efficiency. Indiana finished last season ranked 82nd nationally in offensive efficiency and 32nd in defensive efficiency.

Pomeroy projects IU to finish 10-10 in the Big Ten. The overall record projected for the Hoosiers by Pomeroy is 19-12.

The highest rated non-conference opponents on IU’s schedule according to Pomeroy’s ratings are Florida State (14), Notre Dame (42), Arkansas (44) and UConn (71).

Other non-conference opponents for the Hoosiers this season include Louisiana Tech (110), Princeton (180), South Dakota State (208), Portland State (273), Troy (277), North Alabama (280) and Western Illinois (296).
