Class of 2019 center Oscar Tshiebwe averaged 19.3 points and 10 rebounds last weekend in the adidas Gauntlet stop in Indianapolis for the ITPS Wildcats.

The 6-foot-9 Tshiebwe plays at Kennedy Catholic in Hermitage, Pennsylvania and is a four-star prospect according to the 247Composite. Indiana coach Archie Miller made a trip in late March to watch Tshiebwe.

Inside the Hall caught up with Tshiebwe, who moved to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the age of 15, to discuss his game, his recruitment and more. We’ve also compiled highlights, which are also available below:

Wow!!! He is really athletic and might even be able to play power forward. I hope he comes to IU!

  • ImYourHuckleberry

Thomas Bryant like intensity. Seems to have great instincts and patience when defending. Like his energy.

  • Steve Morgan

You can’t teach that motor and that deep love for defense. He is fun to watch- would definitely be a fan favorite as the enforcer underneath! So many balls up in the air for 2019, a great problem to have!

  • Rick Pearson

Wow He Would Fit In Perfect Finger’s Crossed

  • TheTruth

Very impressed with his motor!! Go IU!

  • AndyCapp

He’s got fantastic instincts to block out on O rebounds and his defense seems to be FAR ahead of most players his age. Nice wide body and motor to play under both baskets. Go get ’em Coach!

  • John D Murphy

Wow. He gets minutes from day 1. He changes the game with his defense and shot blocking. He is very high on my want list.

  • N71

    Ben Wallace? Dirty work beast.

There was a kid from the DRC several years ago who came to America to play basketball. His coach simply told him, “you don’t jump until the guy with the ball does. He’ll try to fake you out, but make sure he leaves the ground before you jump.” Somehow the kid managed to do that. Rarely ever did he fall for a pump fake. Blocked a ton of shots in his career. His name is Dikembe Mutombo.

*I sat right next to his brother, Ilo, in voice & diction class at USI.

  • #4 shorts

Reminds me of WVU’s Sagabe Konate (sp?) with that two handed block

  • marcusgresham

Most of the African kids who come here seem to be thin but not this guy. You aren’t knocking him off the block.

  • marcusgresham

If he isn’t left-handed someone did an excellent job of making him understand how much more effective you can be blocking shots if you use your left.

  • Stephb

Wow. I love some of the wings that we’re going after and those 2019 guards we just offered but this kid is the one i want the most. So rare to find a kid thats 6’9″ with that solid of a frame, those defensive instincts, the quickness, speed, agility. The fact that he’s only been playing for a few years too…almost frightening potential

  • Milton H. Williams

Kid has some Killer defensive instincts! He blocked at least 3 of Matt Hurt’s shots! That’s pretty good for a kid who is still very new, to the game of basketball.

  • Kelin Blab

    One word….ACTIVE!

  • Tyler D

Yessir, what a motor. Sign him up.

  • Tommy Morrsion

Dang…. that was a fun highlight video.

  • MrNobody

With his size n athleticism dare a compare him to sir Charles??? Definitely has the broad body of Chuck. Hopefully he doesn’t try to take up golf 😉

  • AndyCapp

Mine too! But like #34 said, more as a power forward than a center.

  • JimmyChittwood

    years or decades???

  • HuntinHoosier86

This kid should be the #1 priority for Archie and crew to land for 2019, IMHO.

  • Tyler D

Could anyone score at the rim on us with Oscar and TJD playing up front together? Those two are a perfect fit to protect the rim in the pack line.
    1. Keion
    3. Mann
    4. Oscar
That would be a monster class, 2-4 year guys, elite talent and athleticism in that group.
