Video: Draft Express interview with Romeo Langford

  • 04/11/2018 9:02 am in

New Albany five-star guard Romeo Langford is the best available prospect still left on the board in the class of 2018 and was named a McDonald’s All-American and a Jordan Brand Classic All-Star.

In addition to those accolades, Langford is a member of the United States team that will play in the Nike Hoop Summit this Friday at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. He is also the clearcut favorite for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball award.

Langford sat down with Mike Schmitz of DraftExpress.com at the McDonald’s All-American Game in Atlanta and discussed a variety of topics related to his game and his future.

It’s one of the better interviews we’ve seen with Langford, who is still considering Indiana, Kansas and Vanderbilt.

When asked about influences in his life, he only mentioned his parents…..probably best for him to choose a school close to them. 😉

So four years in B-town and a stellar rookie year leading to an all star vote? Sounds like a good 5 year plan Rome!

  • tjblackdog

I wonder what his daddy had to say about the FBI and Kansas?

  • WhatsUpKnight2.0

if they’re consistent, jerKS will no longer be in consideration. the timing of these latest allegations couldn’t be better, that’s fo sho.

  • RonMlarkey

A whole lotta nothing in that interview

  • ImYourHuckleberry

Did you expect a commitment in this video? What else could they possibly ask regarding his thoughts on each school? That dead horse has been beaten enough.

From what I have read, KU is a “victim” in this current situation. No one from KU has been indicted or arrested. A statement from KU says they knew nothing about it but will assist the FBI in any way they can. Sounds like BS to me but at this point KU is not involved in the illegal aspect of it.
It can come out down the road that someone from KU was involved and/or knew about the payments etc…like their coach…see Rick Pitino. The fact that KU is mentioned and had players involved, I would not be surprised if Romeo decides he doesn’t want to be part of any of that. We shall see….but don’t forget Vandy is still in the running for Romeo….it isn’t an IU done deal yet. And I agree in wondering what Romeo’s mother and father think about the recent FBI stuff….especially his mother. Mom’s go to great lengths to protect their babies.

You mean like a lot of your posts?

This pretty much sums up 80% of interviews with athletes. Most of the time they’re still sweating and ready to get the interview over with, so they’re not going to drop a bunch of knowledge. This one had some more personal tidbits I didn’t know about Romeo–favorite player, 5 year goal, etc. For me, it makes watching IU more enjoyable when I know stuff like that. Considering its a 5 min interview, not a 2 hr documentary, I didn’t think it was bad.

  • Mark Bando

Hopefully he is worried that where there is smoke there may be fire and will stay away from Kansas.

    *your comment

  • Was just going to post the same thing. I’d have to think the Langfords are a bit gun shy at this point — with UoL, there were the first problems and then later others came along. With KU, they’d need to make some huge assumptions that another shoe isn’t going to drop there.

Unless Romeo is just completely sold on KU, I’d think this whole mess would be enough to tip favor in another direction. Whether that’s IU or Vandy at this point, I have no guess even.

  • RonMlarkey

I would tend to agree with you if the personal tidbits were not entirely predictable and not answered as if he’s about to die from boredom. Not faulting him at all it is probably his 3000th time answering these questions and I would probably do the same thing but it just does not make for an interesting interview.

  • ImYourHuckleberry

If you’re not interested why waist your time watching it and then commenting on it…this was a fresh take on getting to know him personally. And personally I enjoyed it!

Newsflash: he’s a top 5 in state recruit heavily considering us…why the hell would he not be a hot topic?

What I want to know is why adidas wanted Billy Preston at KU over another adidas school? He was considering IU seriously, wasn’t he? Makes me more confident that Crean and Glass totally cleaned up the program after the Sampson debacle. Let’s hope it stays that way…Romeo dropped UL after Pitino was fired. That might be the difference here even though Self is probably not totally innocent.

  • inLinE6

I was honestly surprised when Billy Preston committed to Kansas. I considered IU a favorite to land him. But considering what happened after that, I was glad we didn’t take chance on him. One thing IU fans should feel proud is how Crean makes sure the program is clean. We had several high profile targets that we thought we were going to land them but they committed elsewhere. Not on FBI list yet, but I wonder if those see the light soon.

  • inLinE6

Our legal system assumes innocence until proved not. It’s expected that KU defends itself in that way, at least before there’s clear evidence. But common sense tells that there must be more to it. But would FBI eventually have enough evidence to prove it? May or may not.

  • Koko

I agree that there must be more to it but the evidence needs to be there. I personally think as far as Romeo goes he will eliminate KU from his list. I would guess his parents don’t want him anywhere near that kind of stuff.

  • Mark Bando

From what romeo says, you get the impression it may be a close race, and as you say, why risk problems in what may only be one year of college.

  • Mark Bando

    Makes sense to me.

  • Kendall Polston

I live in New Albany and listen to Louisville talk shows everyday at work. They hope nothing more than for Romeo to spurn

  • LennyFassbender

Completely agree. “One of the best interviews we’ve seen with Langford…”. Really?? Waste of time.

  • RonMlarkey

That would be cool, but If you’ve seen one Romeo interview you’ve seen them all due to a combination of these amateur reporters asking the same cliche questions over and over and Romeo not giving them much to work with.

  • Kendall Polston

    The Hoosiers

  • ImYourHuckleberry

What would you like these reporters to ask Romeo?

  • Koko

    Okay…thanks.

  • Koko

Give us a list of the questions you would ask….the important ones of course.

  • RonMlarkey

Everything about this kid has been beaten like a dead horse, nothing besides what school he will be attending next year is of any interest to me anymore. I guess it might be a different story if he didn’t answer every question like a robot.

  • sarge

Because he doesn’t really care, he is trolling. His comments on everything are pretty much the same. Don’t expect anything from him, he offers nothing but dumb negative posts. He has over 200 posts and 90 upvotes, most of which were him upvoting himself. He thinks highly of himself, while offering next to nothing in terms of real talk.

  • Koko

I think it would be a smart move on his part….KU is running in third place anyway so why not cross them off his list.

  • Koko

    Spurn who or what?

  • Terry Northern

    GO ROMEO!! GO HOOSIERS!!
