Romeo Langford decision won’t come until April

  • 03/12/2018 7:12 pm in

Fans of the three programs still under consideration by class of 2018 New Albany five-star guard Romeo Langford will have to wait until next month for his college decision.

Langford’s father, Tim, told Inside the Hall on Monday evening that his son will choose between his three finalists – Indiana, Kansas and Vanderbilt – in April.

The regular National Letter of Intent signing period begins on Wednesday, April 11.

Langford, who took official visits to all three of his finalists, has a busy couple of weeks coming up. New Albany will resume play in the IHSAA Class 4A state tournament on Saturday at Seymour as the Bulldogs take on unbeaten Warren Central at 3 p.m. ET.

If New Albany advances, it would play in the Class 4A state championship game on Saturday, March 24 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Langford has also been selected to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game on Wednesday, March 28 in Atlanta and the Jordan Brand Classic in New York City on Sunday, April 8. Both events will be nationally televised.

The Nike Hoop Summit is another spring event that Langford could potentially be invited to participate in, but rosters have yet to be announced. The Hoop Summit takes place on Friday, April 13 in Portland, Oregon. (Update: Langford has been selected to play in the Nike Hoop Summit.)

Tim Langford originally mentioned the McDonald’s All-American Game as a potential time for Romeo to announce a decision, but that is no longer the case.

The Langford’s have said previously that they plan to take another visit to Bloomington before announcing a decision.

The 6-foot-5 guard is currently the state’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 2,967 points. He is 55 points behind Deshaun Thomas and 56 points behind Marion Pierce on the state’s all-time scoring list.

Might be where I looked up the population of Columbus.
Maybe didn’t need to look up New Albany’s because I had a pretty good idea of the number.

It’s not as easy as announcing it. It is part of the CBA (collective bargaining agreement). It would have to be agreed on by both the league and the union. It is incredibly unlikely to happen that fast as it would throw the draft into chaos and nothing gets agreed to that fast. I don’t know when the next significant negotiation window is but I’m assuming in several years. If the G-League salaries continue to climb, if could become a moot point (they can go to the G-League now and skip college but the competition isn’t quite there in some people’s opinion and salaries are still very low) .

Or just maybe a 1/1 duel with Damezi would be the final push to go to IU. Just let things happen.

I’m not in dreamland with you on this one, but I’m excited about next year with or without Romeo. BTW, as a NAHS graduate Romeo couldn’t be making me more proud.

I doubt we start 3 freshman. We would have a hard time maintaining the defensive identity established this year. Truthfully I think Zach starts at the 2 even if Romeo comes. At least for a while.

  • marcusgresham

I’m still not certain Hunter doesn’t end up the most productive of the freshmen.

Agree with much of that. But I guess it’s hard for me to agree that the decision of where a one and done will play his one year is that huge a decision for him. It’s huge for the lucky school he chooses, in as much as his one year can make a meaningful impact on that program. If he were hanging around 2 or 3 years, then yeah, there are all sorts of important things to consider.

But the truth is that playing one season of college ball at one of these three places is very unlikely to affect his career trajectory. He’s a top 5 talent no matter where he goes.

He seems like a great kid. Same with Rob Phinisee. Doing everything the right way.

Seriously?….you want to see his girlfriend’s picture?
Didn’t you comment on wanting to see Priller’s girlfriend
    yesterday? Just wondering why.

  • Koko

Only if they chew tobacco without spitting.
    Are you a farmer?

  • RonMlarkey

Your not the funny police, this is a basketball website not a good kid website and priller is awful at basketball.

  • RonMlarkey

    Where else would he announce….

  • RonMlarkey

    His basement?

  • HuntinHoosier86

Oh! You’re from Corydon? I grew up in Central and lived there until I was 10 and we moved to Greenville. You know any Longacres out there? That’s my crew

  • Koko

You need to control yourself when it comes to asking for
girlfriend pictures on a basketball website. Twice now you have requested pictures of ball players girlfriends. Sorta of odd don’t you think?

  • Koko

    As well as you.

  • millzy32

Very odd but the odd thing is actually that he doesn’t know how to use Google Image search. Would take about a second for a creeper like him to find what he’s looking for.

  • IUBizmark

    Who’s RT?

  • Koko

Every time I see one of your posts it becomes painfully clear
that this is not a good kid website. And I never made a comment on his basketball ability. I would guess he is a much better basketball player than you. And for sure a better person. So if you don’t like my comments don’t read them or better yet block me.

I like giving a shout out for what I feel like is an excellent comment….or in your case a shout out for what is a, I’ll just be nice and say, a very uninformed and unintelligent comment.

  • IUMIKE1

Believe I read somewhere that if they decide to make a change it could be made before the next CBA negotiations and they could do an addendum to the current CBA if both sides agreed to it. I don’t see them making a decision that would affect draft scenarios this close to the draft, but rather before next year’s draft or the one following it.
