Would love to see him down in Bloomington as soon as possible, the quicker he can take the reigns the better. Should be a similar situation to Yogi in that everyone in the BigTen will know who Indiana’s point guard is.

  • WhatsUpKnight2.0

CM seems to be building a solid foundation with this class. unfortunately, probably another year away before we can think about cracking the top 25. well, another year, or a RL, i should say!

Phinisee will make a huge difference! Lacking in a true point guard since Yogi left, shows just how much you need a that position on the floor! Wings and forwards we are good, need some help with the big man position,(the 5, the 4, center or power forward. whatever term is being used). Not sure how effective DD will be, on return from injury! If Romeo doesn’t come quality big is worth going after! Teams at the top of the Big Ten(PU, MSU or Michigan) all have quality bigs!

  • Q46

He’s got a little bit more bounce than I thought. Hopefully he’s ready for the next level. It’s hard to tell from the highlight videos what his decision making looks like but I’m excited to have a true PG again

  • Sarasota Hoosier

Can’t wait to see Robert in pinstripes! Off topic question, since IU “technically” could receive NIT invitation, is the team still practicing?

  • SCHoosier

I saw him make 4 FTs in a row..don’t need to see anything else:) Great get by Archie and staff. This kid has to start next year…. does too many things too well.

  • mharv2631

Looks like IU will have a guard that can shoot a free throw.

  • Pat Smith

    Good point!

  • inCMitrust

I think all his offensive skills translate to B1G basketball right away. I’m not sure about his defense, but if he can pick up the pack line over the summer he will start from day 1(IMO).

Jeff wasn’t a great team this year, but they were pretty good (17-8). I don’t think that RP will be a dynamic scorer at IU a la Yogi, but I think he will run a solid point, play good D, and be able to shoot from outside when open.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I have a good friend who is a radio play by play guy for a conference rival of McCutcheon, and he says that RP is excellent. Very quick, very composed, doesn’t force the situation, but is willing to put the team on his back when warranted. And this friend of mine is not one to gush on players without reason. He’s pretty tough to please.

  • inCMitrust

He has good form and can shoot from deep. That translates. When he drives he can use both hands. That translates. He will have to learn that 6’10 guys will block a lot of his drives. He will be quicker than a lot of the guys guarding him. That translates. I have watched a lot of his highlight videos and I’m not judging my thoughts just on this tape, we will see about his defense.

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

    Thanks for that Calbert!!

  • Tobin Frost

    DD will be good

  • BruceA

I really like that he can go to his left as about as good as his right. I think he’s going to be solid for us!

  • WestSideHoosier

I was at the championship game against Zionsville and I would agree with your friend’s assessment. One thing that’s overlooked with him is his strength. He finished at the rim through contact on several occasions for and 1’s against much bigger guys than Jeff has. As I stated yesterday, he had every reason to force things, but didn’t. He’s fun to watch.

  • TomJameson

Yes, Phinisee is a good point. 🙂

  • IU Cal 1809

Take Phinisee off his team and idk if they win 6 games. The battles this summer vs Green would be fun to watch.

  • RMK Assembly Hall

He’s a solid looking player that will fill a massive need! He could have the biggest impact of the incoming freshman, unless Romeo comes too. Is he still labeled as a 3 Star? He was on the fringe at the beginning of this season.

  • beppecolo

Uh huh, and you base that on what he’s done to this point? Hmm, think I agree with bball. Even if DD does play to his potential, this is the B1G and I think we need another big body under the basket.

  • Hoosiernation1887

Count me in for the camp that still believes Devonte will have a great chance of remaining starting PG next year. Devonte, despite his too often questionable decisions, has proven he clearly has a lot of ability to create for others, and despite struggling in the early part of the year, has the ability to create shots for himself and knockdown spot-up opportunities. I’m glad we have Phinisee coming in and I think he has the chance to be a great 4-year player, however I’m not sure if he takes the reins from the moment he gets here. We’ll see.

  • sd chuck

The perpetual injury thing would be the biggest fear. Would love to see him shoot about 1000 freethrows a day, while rehab. He needs to be able to knock those down to be effective!

  • coachv

i think he’s a 4 star. scores at will. finishes easily with his left hand better than anyone on this year’s iu team.

  • coachv

i think you should stop calling him phinny. we don’t need another mcfly thing going on

  • coachv

maybe moore will put on 40lbs
