so here are some of the rumors i’m hearing regarding roster turnover…

    JM is coming back

    OG almost definitely gone

nobody’s sure about TB, but there’s a chance he comes back

this one blew me away: JBJR is returning, though he would have grad transferred if CTC had stayed. anybody buying that one?

  • ArghSonOfOhCrap

JM will be back… To me he is the MVP he does so much!

  • HoosierKid

McKinley Wright. He is an under-rated 3 star point guard and Archie’s top recruit to go to Dayton this upcoming season.

  • Jim Miller

agreed. I think he wasnt fully healthy from his microfracture surgery until late in the B1G season

  • Sherronhasaheadache

I’d be suprised if JB or TB comes back

  • Ms hoosier

I agree if we can get the bulk of our players to come back we can make some serious noise. I’m curious though about McSwain and what kind of role player he can be under Archie? The kid has some toughness and under Archie’s system he could make a difference

Newkirk with the right coaching could actually be really good. I said that all season long and I believe that. He’s got the tools. He even picked up his shooting late in the season.

  • Ms hoosier

I agree. He had to play too fast this season. I think if you allow him to slow down a little he could be much better

  • WhatsUpKnight2.0

i wouldn’t be surprised either way with TB, but certainly wasn’t counting on JBJR returning until i heard this. still not sure i believe it

  • IULore

Newkirk was already starting to be really good, and he will be really good. “the right coaching” is stupid

Maybe I was reading into his meaning, but I think he only meant that he doesn’t replace a guy who is already on the roster. I don’t think it meant that he won’t recruit a PG when we have a solid Jr PG on the roster.

  • Koko

Hard for me to say until the team is set. If JM, TB, JBJ, RJ, JN, DD, FM
come back and include the new recruits….I’d say top three in the B1G and NCAA tourney bound. Possibly the Elite 8.

  • Well, huh. Even if CH and OG leave, but JBJ and TB want to come back and the commits re-commit, then we’re oversigned by one if everyone else comes back.

I suppose the university could grant the release of one of the commits and then Archie just not re-recruit him, but the timing would be tight.

So, what, exactly, does Archie do in the circumstance that he does end up oversigned?

  • At some point, you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that lots of people thing Archie is a better coach than TC. At least, you’re going to drive yourself crazy if you don’t.

  • banarish

I predict IU will overachieve in Year 1, causing skyrocketing expectations for Year 2, only to come crashing down to Earth when a more ‘average’ result occurs, and then everyone will be calling for Archie’s head. And we’ll all blame our own emotional roller coaster ride on factors we have absolutely no control over.

But seriously, I predict a national championship within 5 years.

    One word: Priller

  • Yes, but what does the coach _do_? He can’t, as I understand it, just take the scholarship away. So is it a matter of convincing the guy he should move on?

  • GivenGo

Yup. And isn’t he close to graduating anyway?

  • TomJameson

I think I’m agreeing with you here Calbert. 🙂

My understanding about “recruiting over” somebody, is that they actively go after a higher rated recruit, to replace an existing player (likely a starter). The new player gets the minutes of the current player, who get nada minutes, and is sort of “forced” to transfer to get minutes.

Long, I know. But that is something that I think Archie will not do. And, by the way, I don’t think it was something that Crean did either. I think he just played the game a little differently.
