Indiana’s coaching search may be nearing a conclusion.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports that Archie Miller of Dayton is in “serious talks” to become the new coach in Bloomington.

Inside the Hall will continue to monitor this developing story.

Not my absolute top choice, but I’d still be very happy with this hire.

  • JeS

Seems unpossible. Gottlieb and Dakich told me Alford had already set up a cot in Assembly Hall

  • sam

    Not proven, but okay…

  • WTH? According to Wikipedia:

“On March 25, 2017, Miller was named head basketball coach at Indiana University.”

    Someone’s messing with someone.

  • Jking3002

Yes please! My number one of the realistic choices.

He coaches sound fundamentals, and gets the most out of his talent. He might not bring a bundle of 5 stars right out of the gate but he’s a coach I could see sticking around for years to come and building Indiana into a consistent winner. I certainly don’t think he’d be missing tournaments with teams like what IU had this year!

Lol, didn’t expect Wikipedia to break the story. That’s funny.

“….who is currently head men’s basketball coach at the University of Indiana.” University of Indiana? Where is that?

  • If this ends up being true, then I’m good with it. He was always in my Top 5, and I do like the idea of a young coach who can come in an build his own legacy that’s intertwined with IU. Build for the future, I say.

Though what I like is that prior to Dayton, he was an assistant a various power 5 schools for 7 years, including Arizona and OSU, so he should be familiar with the high level recruiting

  • They fixed it. 🙂

    WojBomb says it’s final.

    Number 5 on my list…

  • Pianoroark

    An excellent hire. Pumped.

Look at how many fingers he is holding up in the picture IU tweeted out. Love it….

  • I have to say, I’m excited. Truly. First, it’s done, and a relief. Second, as a few of you might remember from my too-long post earlier in the week, I wanted this kind of guy — someone who could build a legacy _at IU_. I see it as a high-risk, high-reward choice, the kind of choice that made RMKIU, Coach KDuke, SmithUNC, WoodenUCLA, etc.

  • Agreed. I can say I don’t have any reservations about this choice, now that it’s made.

There were only ever 2 slam dunks, both always looked unlikely. Miller was one of only 3 or 4 other credible candidates so I’m happy. Got it all to prove at this level but importantly, while he may have been few peoples #1, he is probably one of few candidates that can unite the fanbase.

    Let’s get to work!

  • Fifer39

Yep. Now let’s limit the transfers, persuade a couple not now to leave early and let’s get after some of the 4 and 5 stars left on the boards.

Check out FGs statement – pretty much a summary of TCs failings!

  • I like Miller’s statement:

“I am honored to be the head coach at Indiana University,” Miller said Saturday in a statement. “IU is one of the greatest basketball programs and academic institutions in the country and I cannot wait to get started. With peerless fan support, outstanding facilities and tradition, a beautiful campus, and located in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country, IU is a dream destination for me and my family.”

I assume Glass hired Net Jets to fly from OKC to Chicago to Bloomington Thursday night to throw people off. Not very economical, but certainly effective ; ).

  • Nice acronym, too: CAM. Scans well.

  • Missing Moye

Absolutely. My “top choices” weren’t realistic (Stevens, Donovan). Of the options we had a shot at, Miller was right at the top.

  • SCHoosier

Let’s hope the “horizontal” reports the same thing

  • calbert40 – AC000000

hahaha!!! That shouldn’t have made me laugh as much as it did, but it did!

  • Fifer39

These things are often about timing as much as anything else and both were probably too early into their nba jobs. Still think it’s conceivable that Stevens will coach in Btown one day – but hopefully not for a while and after another few banners!

Dam Right! I was reading up on Dayton Flyers… After being a Fan of IU BB since 1983; I almost subscribed and considered becoming a Fan of Dayton. But then I realized their coach was leaving…. Haha! What a recruiting job he’s done. Miller really had a great culture at Dayton…. He’s going to do great things…. For the record, I think we get a series going with UK again. Cal is a family friend to John Miller.
