Report: Indiana to play in 2017 2K Sports Classic

  • 09/01/2016 1:49 pm in

Not only will Indiana play in Madison Square Garden for the 2018 Big Ten tournament, the Hoosiers will make a stop at the “World’s Most Famous Arena” in November of 2017.

According to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Indiana will play in the 2K Sports Classic in 2017 along with Providence, Virginia Tech and Washington.

It will be the first trip to New York for Indiana since December of 2014, when the Hoosiers played Louisville in the Jimmy V Classic.

Indiana also played at MSG in November of 2013 in the 2K Sports Classic against Washington and UConn.

This season’s 2K Sports Classic will be held on Nov. 17 and 18 at Madison Square Garden. The bracket features Pittsburgh, SMU, Michigan and Marquette.

The 2K Sports Classic typically features a pair of regional games on campus before moving to MSG for the championship rounds.

Other known non-conference foes for Indiana for the 2017-2018 season are Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center on Dec. 9 and Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic on Dec. 16.

Better get some good 2017 recruits; especially if up against Washington. Man, what I would give to see OG against Porter. On second thought, the hell with that. I want to see OG play so well this year he’s playing in the NBA by that time. OG vs. Porter can wait until both are in the NBA.

Born and raised in Seattle I cannot wait for IU vs UW! Go Hoosiers!

  • HuntinHoosier86

    I second that!

The last time IU played Washington in NYC it was a massacre with IU getting a W. I think IU basically only played against one guy that evening: C.J. Wilcox. They fell to eventual national champ UConn afterwards…possibly at or near the buzzer, if my memory serves me well.

I want another banner. If they come up a little short, I want OG and TB (and the rest of the team) stay another year just to get it done.

But it would be easier on my blood pressure if they just got it done this year.

Using the picture of Bryant dunking on Kentucky for 2K sports classic cover is hilarious.

    Washington has a basketball team?

  • Ole Man

A very good one both this year and next.
They got Porter, one of the better players in the country in next year’s class.

They often grab some good and mostly local recruits, but never do any real damage. It seems their teams are never cohesive enough to realize their full potential, be it due to the immaturity of younger stars, frequent transfers, or a supposed failure of the coaching staff to get them ready to play. That last reason, of course, is only what has been often said about Romar and not necessarily the case. For this season, they need to replace a lot, including 2 NBA 1st rounders (Chriss and Murray) and a 20 point per game scorer (Andrews), but they are bringing in one of the best freshmen in Markelle Fultz. He will probably score about 20 and become a top 5 pick in June, but the rest of the young team will need to step up. They will probably be better in 2018 due to the addition of Porter and others along with another season of experience for the returnees.

BL, hello. Last season Mississippi State achieved the dream recruiting class in which IU lost several incoming freshman. I don’t see MSU anywhere in rankings or expectations. Coaching? And why will Washington be good?

Everyone complains about weak schedule early in the season….this will help

  • GaHoosier

Derek Willis is looking up at that dunk thinking…”I need to get wasted!”

Those pics are good for any occasion, methinks.

  • I’d stop short of calling them “very good” this season before they go out and prove it. Remember, they had two first round picks last year and made the NIT.

  • Ole Man

Didn’t realize they had two 1st rounders. Thanks for that headsup!

IU stayed Close with the refs calling 4 cheap fouls on Vonleh to keep him out of the game. IU still had every chance to win that game.
