Class of 2018 Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) and St. Louis Eagles guard Darius Garland is one of the top point guards in the country. The Indiana recruiting target averaged 14.8 points, four assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game last month in the Nike EYBL Finals at the Peach Jam.

With the help of Krossover, we recently broke down some film of Garland, who made an unofficial visit to Bloomington for last season’s home finale, from the Peach Jam to provide Indiana fans with a feel for his game and style of play.

You can find more Nike EYBL highlights at Krossover.

His father, Winston, started his NBA career with Golden State and was on his way to a really good career before a rookie PG by the name of Hardaway got him traded to the terrible Clippers. Could have been “Run WMC” out there…

I post this same comment once a year so I guess its that time again…but herewego:

Its hard to get excited about recruits that aren’t going to commit for at least a year or more.Things change too many early commits decommit anyway…now with that said this kid has very impressive bball IQ….

but the bottom line for me is the 2017 class is probably the most loaded class in the past decade…I can’t even think about 2018 when Wilkes, Scruggs, Bamba, Diallo, Tucker, Walker, and Samuels are out there for the picking.

This kid is smooooooooth and then some.m Too early to get excited..but he will be on everybody’s offer list.

I’m with you…I don’t have time to do this but, hypothetically, if we went back a year in time and looked at the class of 2017 prospects that we were excited about and “in the running for”, I imagine the list on August 8 of 2015 would be entirely different than the list on August 8 of 2016. Point being, things change so, so much and it’s really hard to focus on 2018 this far away. I will say that I’ve seen Bloomington North’s Musa Jallow in person and I really like his game.

Anyway, I know you weren’t making a comprehensive list of prospects worth getting amped about but I’d like to add a couple of recent names to those “there for the picking”. I’ve seen point guard Alex Barcello live and he’s so much fun to watch (and quite good). I’m glad we are in on him. I think he’s Arizona’s to lose but hey, there’s a chance. The second name is Chaundee Brown. We only recently offered him and I think Kansas is favored but he’s 6’5″ and can really fill it up. I wasn’t sure where else to put those two names and this seemed as good a place as any. It’s irrelevant to Darius Garland so, my bad for that…I’m sure he’s very good and I’ll read about him again and possibly comment on him if I see him in person next summer!

    Romeo or bust.

I think Brown left IU off of his final four list of schools: Wake, Kansas, Florida, and Maryland. Kind of surprising he bumped IU without a visit, now just hoping he doesn’t head to MD. I think he will end up at Kansas.
