Class of 2016 Vermont Academy guard Bruce Brown committed to the University of Miami in an announcement today at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.

The 6-foot-3 guard, who took an official visit to Indiana in early October, chose the Hurricanes over the Hoosiers, Xavier, Purdue and UMass.

Brown had initially planned to wait until the spring to make a decision, but opted on Monday to trim his list of schools to Miami and IU and also set up today’s announcement.

The No. 40 player nationally according to the 247Composite, Brown averaged 15.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, two steals, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks per game in July at the Peach Jam for the Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC).

Brown, who has a 6-foot-9 wingspan, is one of the top defensive guards in the class of 2016.

He could be the first of two recruits today to announce for Miami today as five-star forward Dewan Huell is scheduled to announce a decision early this afternoon.

Indiana signed three players this fall for its 2016 recruiting class: Curtis Jones, De’Ron Davis and Grant Gelon. Pittsburgh transfer Josh Newkirk will also become eligible next season.
