First look: 2016 Indiana basketball recruiting board

  • 05/07/2015 7:47 am in

With the two April evaluation periods behind us, it’s time for the overdue launch of our 2016 Indiana basketball recruiting board.

Included are 17 rising seniors to watch with several other prospects to keep an eye on. The board will be updated throughout the spring and summer as prospects set visits, trim lists and make decisions in their recruitments. (Note: The board should not be considered a complete list of prospects being recruited.)

ITH got up early for the long awaited recruiting board update! Props on a job well done, now hopefully we can get this guy in the above pic

wow that’s a lot of information to take in! glad to see some highly rated talent on that list, want to keep the recruiting momentum going

If we have 3 leaving for sure and those guys are Yogi, Zeisloft and Hanner… then we auto need to be recruiting a PG, SG and C. If we think Troy and JBJ are leaving then we need another SG and SF. There is no way we should go into another hole like the past two years because “we didn’t know who was leaving” type excuses. We know exactly who is and might be leaving. This staff needs to finally show that they’re capable of reloading.

  • Hoosier Hall

I agree 100%. We should be involved with and have offers to multiple people at each position. Never put all your eggs in one basket. That being said, I would say PG and C would be the most important spots to be recruiting for next season. The SF spot would be OK even if Troy left but it wouldn’t hurt to land one. I am most concerned with the C position. Hanner is gone obviously but there is also the chance that Thomas Bryant ends up as a high draft pick and decides to “take his talents to the NBA”.

We’ll have OG if Troy leaves but we don’t know how good OG is yet. But with 3 leaving we should be just replacing them.

  • Hardwood83

I’d be thrilled with a class of: Alkins, Davis, Brunk and a PG to be named later. Maybe Gordon too, cuz I’m sentimental like that.

  • hoosier93

Not if he’s anything like Evan. Maybe if he’s even just a tenth of what Eric was. Maybe then. But I’m not worried about getting him.

  • Hoosier Hall

OG, Collin and I think Devin could also play some SF if necessary.

  • hoosier93

Well Devin technically is a SF. But we still don’t know if he can even play. So he’s just not in the discussion.

  • Hoosier Hall

True. I guess I was looking at best case scenario.

  • hoosier93

Yea. Beat case scenario he can definitely play the 3 and 4. We’ve never really seen him shoot the ball but he’d be a good rebounder IMO from the 3 spot.

gonna be mass turnover once again after this year, so we’d better enjoy this upcoming season and hope we get lucky enough to have TB come back

  • Shaggy_C

Yogi, Ziesloft, Hanner, and Troy are all gone. JBJ and TB are most likely out the door too. Add in a transfer (or two) and we are looking at a worst-case scenario 8-man recruiting class for 2016. Yikes. Most likely is 5-6, which is still a huge class.

  • enickman

    Go to Cal Caleb!

  • Terry Arney

I just hope he doesn’t go to Purdue! That’s just a very strange thing to change his mind this late in recruitment. More to follow: I’m sure of it!

  • SilentBob

Although Haas, Hammonds, and Swanigan would be beast I’ll take that coaching trade any day. Painter is a better coach than people and the numbers suggest, but still no Izzo.

I think someone mentioned this on the actual recruiting board but I’ll re-state it. It looks like TC and co. Are targeting a lot of 3-4 year players in 2016 class mixed with a couple potential 1 and dones. Happy to see that they’ve realized they always need to keep quality depth on the bench because of cases like Vonleh. I’d say we dodged a bullet this year with JBJ, Troy, and Yogi all coming back. Most on here agree that none were ready but kids that young don’t always make the soundest decisions. If TC and Co. Can get a good balance with the 2016 class (couple 1 and dones but more 3-4yr players) I think we’ll finally start seeing with some consistent high caliber teams from TC, which everyone has been begging for.

That would be the best case scenario for IU and IU fans. Not only does IU avoid playing him at two B1G schools, he also stays away from the Evil Empire. I’m sick and damn tired of watching Kentucky win games with players from Indiana.

  • Hoosier89

What makes people think JBJ is so likely to be gone next year? I think he has much room for improvement.

  • The_Bob_Michaels

I totally agree with what you’re saying, but the fact that he (and Yogi) made “announcements” that they were staying says it’s something he intends to do (no matter how ill-advised it might be).

  • Darren Morgan

You also have JM as well, I can’t understand why when people on this blog act like OG and JM won’t be a factor

  • Dmoe

OG and JM both can guard multiple positions. Also JM has I good mid range game which is needed it
