Emmitt Holt, a 6-foot-7 forward who graduated from Webster Schroeder (NY) this past spring and opted to head to Vermont Academy for a postgraduate season, will visit Indiana beginning tomorrow and could become the sixth member of the 2014 class for the Hoosiers.

At the AAU Nationals in July in Louisville, Holt averagedĀ 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in nine games asĀ his Albany City Rocks team finished second in the event. During the 2014 Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) season, he averaged 11.6 points (60.2 FG%), 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

In his final season at Webster Schroeder, Holt averaged 19.8 points, 14.6 rebounds and five blocks and was a finalist for the Mr. Basketball award in New York.

Here’s a look at some highlights of Holt’s final high school season:

I’m really optimistic about this years team and even if this guy only provides depth, he’s very intriguing for a team lacking depth inside…

Imagine him after the summer work post freshman year that results in the “leap” we’ve seen in others. Yow, dude will be a load if he adds an additional 20 pounds of muscle. Charles Barkley like.

I love this as a low-risk, high-reward move. The kid was 6′ 6″ now they say 6’7″. He has a 7’3″ wingspan and size 18 shoes. He’s not a project, just undersized. It sounds like he may still be growing. If in prep school he sprouts up two or three more inches to match the rest of his long body he potentially turns into another Anthony Davis and you are competing with Kentucky, Kansas and Duke. In this instance we got him.
If he’s done growing with good coaching he’s a longer Devin Davis. 7’3″ wingspan will alter a lot of shots. It doesn’t hurt that the kid can play too.

Are there any other schools interested in this athlete?

Holt is much more back to the basket. He had a lot of A-10 interest as a 6’6″ PF and was a finalist for the NY Mr. Basketball (which our old friend Isaiah Whitehead won). He’s listed as a 2015 recruit because he was headed for prep school, but sounds like Crean wants him for 2014. The idea was another year of growing at prep school and he’d be a top recruit with high major interest.
I’m admittedly very critical of the unknowns that Crean plucks out of the air, but this is a really exciting kid.

It’s funny watching these highlights from other states where there are only 100 people in the stands. We had 7,000 people in the town, our gym sat 4,500 and in good years it was near capacity. In not as good years it was still 1500-2000. We played in front of 10k people for regional finals. Only in Indiana.

Damon Bailey played in front of 50,000 in the State Finals during the last single class tournament. Yes, only in Indiana!

Damon bailey was not in the last single class tournament… The last single class tournament was in 1998
