One of the top class of 2016 prospects from Kentucky took an unofficial visit to Indiana on Tuesday and left campus with a scholarship offer.

Eli Wright, a 6-foot-4 guard from Owensboro Apollo, picked up a scholarship yesterday during a visit with the Indiana coaching staff in Bloomington.

His guardian, Ben Moss, accompanied him on the visit.

“It was a good visit,” Wright told Inside the Hall via text message on Tuesday evening. “They have a great facility, it’s beautiful. They showed me around and I had a chance to play with the players.”

The Hoosiers join Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, UAB and Western Kentucky as the schools who have offered so far, according to Wright.

Unranked by the four major national recruiting services, Wright is ranked the No. 36 prospect overall by for the class of 2016.

Wright spent time with Tom Crean while on the visit, who explained where he sees him fitting in if he were to attend Indiana.

“They said they think I would be a great fit with my ability to defend and score in multiple ways on the floor,” he said. “They said they will be watching me in July.”

Hey Alex, is it unusual for us to not have a 2015 commit at this point in time? Since CTC arrived, have we not had 1 or 2 committed by now? What do we think is going on?

  • ForeverIU

Thon Maker in the making, maybe?

  • IUreturn

    Maker is 2016, no?

This team is an elite 2015 big man away from being really really good. I hope we get another talented big to compliment those shooters while we have Yogi.

  • ForeverIU

There’s been talk about Thon Maker re-classifying to 2015, and that IU’s chances of getting him would go up if he does.

  • IUreturn

I didn’t know, that would be awesome. Same thing as Vonleh, right?

  • Unusual for Indiana based on recent history? Yes. Unusual otherwise? No. And if you look at last year, Indiana didn’t really get involved with Robert Johnson until July and Max Hoetzel until the fall.

Well, as I mentioned in The Forum, I hesitate to bet against CTC in terms of landing a gem late in the game. I just don’t see many gems on the table, and the ones out there don’t seem incredibly interested. Waiting patiently for something good to happen.

  • My thoughts on where things stand for 2015, although I think you’ve probably already read it:

  • MillaRed

Oh I read it alright LOL. That’s why I’m trying to be patient. I didn’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling about any of those kids.

  • Hoosier Hall

Jeez, I’d take him or Zimmerman. That would be awesome.

I hope something good happens for IU with a big man soon because Coach needs it, IU needs it, the players need it, fans need it and my old Milla needs it. I do not
like seeing u so down. Who knows maybe the new freshman and Hanner will do a decent job along with our great guards. I would not count Coach out yet. he pulled NV and JBJ out at the last moment.

I think so, but not sure.
