It’s already been a busy week recruiting wise for Indiana, and this weekend, it will heat up even more. Former Indiana All-American Victor Oladipo is in town working Tom Crean’s ProCamp and the Hoosiers will have several recruits on campus.

Here’s a rundown of the prospects who are expected to visit this weekend along with other news and notes from the past week:

· Malachi Richardson: One of Indiana’s top targets for the class of 2015, Richardson will take an unofficial visit to Indiana this weekend, as well. A five-star wing player, he is the No. 11 player in the 2015 class, according to ESPN.com.

· Isaiah Whitehead: Only hours after he will play in the Elite 24 game on Saturday night (7 p.m., ESPNU), Whitehead (pictured) will fly to Indiana for an unofficial visit on Sunday and Monday after being offered only two weeks ago. The 2014 guard is also considering Syracuse, Minnesota and UCLA, among others.

· Robert Johnson: The 2014 guard will make his first official visit to Indiana this weekend and will arrive Saturday afternoon. The four-star prospect has previously told Inside the Hall that he could commit on an official visit, though he already has additional visits scheduled to Virginia (Sept. 7) and an in-home visit with North Carolina (Sept. 10). Florida State could also get an official visit later in September.

· James Blackmon Jr.: When 2014 Marion guard James Blackmon Jr. renounced his commitment to Indiana two weeks ago, he made it clear he still had interest in the Hoosiers’ program. Well, he wasn’t kidding. Blackmon will make an unofficial visit to Indiana on Saturday, delaying a previously-planned Michigan State trip to Sunday to make room for a trip to Bloomington. He also is planning visits to Louisville and Kentucky, according to UMHoops.com.

· Kris Wilkes: A 2017 forward from North Central, Wilkes is scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Indiana on Friday. He does not yet have an offer from the Hoosiers.

· Kyle Guy: Guy, a 2016 guard from Lawrence Central, participated in Indiana’s open gym on Thursday during an unofficial visit and told Inside the Hall he played pick up games with Devin Davis, Remy Abell, Luke Fischer and Victor Oladipo. He called it “a great experience,” and when asked where IU stands with him, he said, “You know, I couldn’t tell you. I’m too young and I have no clue, so as of right now, I’m just interested in any school that’s interested in me.”

· Devin Robinson: Robinson has scheduled two official visits, including one to Indiana for Hoosier Hysteria on Oct. 4. The other official visit he has planned is to Oklahoma State, on Sept. 13. The 6-foot-8, 2014 forward cut his list on Friday to Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State.

· Quentin Snider: Despite an earlier invitation to visit Indiana this weekend, as of right now, Snider will not be making the visit, his father told Inside the Hall on Friday morning. Snider, a Louisville decommit, is the No. 28 prospect in the 2014 class, according to ESPN.com, and is currently considering Connecticut, Cincinnati, Illinois, Memphis and UCLA.

· Goodluck Okonoboh: Earlier this week, Okonoboh, a 2014 forward trimmed his list to Duke, Florida, Indiana, Ohio State and UNLV, in no particular order. He will be playing in Saturday’s Elite 24 game and will be teammates with Whitehead.

Three 2014 guards visiting in the same weekend is great news! I predict one of them will see the urgency to commit within the week. As far as Blackmon goes, I hope he sees that we have serious interest in these other kids and can decide what he really wants. Either way I really feel Robert Johnson decides to be a Hoosier soon! Will be a fun weekend to watch unfold.

  • kingoflucerne .

Kyle Guy played with Remy Abell at the open gym on Thursday?

  • Yes, Remy is in town. Crean tweeted a picture with him yesterday.

  • Andrew

Wish we’d tell JBJ to stay home. No way he re-ups w/ IU.

  • Kelly15

    Getting excited.

  • Mark Holt

I think just the opposite. Here you go JBJ, if we don’t get you we have great options lined up. Crap or get off the commode young man.

  • Andrew

He understands that we’re recruiting other guards. And it’s not like he’s going to make a decision this wknd anyway.

  • marcusgresham

That was my first reaction? I guess the conspiracy theorists may have been a bit exaggerated about CTC running him out of town.

  • slojoe

After a lull in recruiting things are really heating up this week-end. Wow!

  • drewheck

I have a feeling that we will get at least on commitment this weekend maybe 2

  • IUMIKE1

Yea, that one raised an eyebrow on ole dad too. Had to reread it to make sure. Conspiracy theorists be gone I tell you, be gone.

  • N71

I like Kyle Guy’s answer, smart young man. Blackman has me confused, I have NO idea what he’s going to do. It’s Indiana, then its not, then UK, just like dad, then he’s visiting IU, what the hell. Its like some weird recruiting Attention Deficit Disorder thing.

  • IUMIKE1

Blackmon dropping in ? Rearranging his M St. visit once all these guys decide to show up at the same time ? Something tells me that this is just him being curious and checking out the candidates who may use his previously guaranteed scholly up close, be able to get in on some high level pick up games and do a little more damage control all at the same time. Hope like hell I’m wrong and will be more than willing to eat my fair share of crow if I am. Don’t think I’m gonna have to ask if I can get fries with that though.

  • Gregory Spera

Call me crazy, but I would take JBJr back in a second. Shooters like him are very rare.

  • IUGRADUATE

I am not a big fan of offering scholarships very early, but I really like the ways that CTC and his staff handle recruiting. No matter whom we end up with, I will be happy with the ones who want to play for IU, the coaches, and the Hoosiers Nation! Go Hoosiers and Go IU!!!!

  • hoosierstateofmind

Exactly, that says something when a guy decides to transfer but still drops back in and plays pick up ball with the old team. Crean runs this thing with class people, even the guys who leave do so with class.

  • inLinE6

Take him back but with dignity. There’re other great prospects that’re more serious in us than him. I’ll take Robert Johnson in a second.

  • SirEric

With all of the disappointments we’ve been facing on the recruiting trail, how can you not get excited about this. Recruits have to be thinking, “Open spots at IU. Don’t mind if I do.” Good news has to be heading our way.

  • Tucson Hoosier

So, does this mean Devin Robinson is visiting this weekend as well?

  • WisconHoosier

It does seem odd. Won’t he be a distraction? Why would we want him anywhere near these other elite recruits? I don’t get it.

Have him visit, yes. By all means. But keep him away from our other recruits.

Let’s say he recommits Sunday. Who would believe him?

  • Steve Fischer

I’m most happy that Blackmon Jr is visiting. IF he was negative on IU or totally decided against us , he wouldn’t bother.. and put MSU on hold.
I’d be even happier if someone committed this weekend, we could definitely use some Goodluck.

  • SCHoosier

Backmon is “committed” to attend UK’s midnight Madness in late Oct….don’t see anything that will change that. I ‘d like James to be at IU..but I will be disappointed if we still have a spot uncommitted come late Oct. I guess that’s possible with all of our primary targets taking the official five visits and some extras.

  • SCHoosier

Jordon I hope you and Alex didn’t have great social weekends planned..looks like their may be some reactions required and news developing.

  • BC

Maybe he just honestly wants to look at other schools to be sure of his decision. Sometimes people are upfront with their intentions. He did commit before Oladipo ever stepped onto IUs court.

  • dwdkc

Can’t avoid speculating, but who really knows? He’s a great shooter, has been improving to near the top of his class, and is from Indiana. IU is so loaded with the incoming class that you have to be a pretty confident kid to want to consider coming here in ’14. Cut the kid a break and take him at his word, and if he goes somewhere else, good luck to him.

  • Snookafly

I really hope he comes to IU, but my big fear is that he isn’t serious about us but wants to whisper in the ears of our other recruits.

  • Snookafly

We will be loaded, but unfortunately Kentucky will still likely have more competition for PT.

  • dwdkc

No argument. He seems good enough to go anywhere. My point was sort of unrelated, but the main thing is that there’s a decent chance we can take him at his word that he may still really want to come to IU. He’s come on so strong that maybe he decided he didn’t want to miss all the excitement of wanting to be wanted by all the biggest names in hoops. But the tug at IU could still be strong, as homestate stars become local icons.

  • Oldguyy

I liked Guy’s answer, too. The beginning of wisdom is recognizing when you don’t have a clue; so many never get that far. Maybe they’re holding tryouts for the 2014 guard scholarship(s) this weekend and Snider looked at the competition and decided he didn’t have a prayer.

  • CreanFaithful

I was confused about that too… I don’t think so. Maybe someone can correct me?

  • Oldfan

Come on. He’s a 17 year old kid. My kids had enough trouble picking a college and they didn’t have hundreds of couch potatoes getting on their case.

  • Oldfan

Remy is a great kid. Really like the warm welcome he gets when he visits.

  • hgdownunder

Recruiting seems to go through trends and our guy definitely follows them – offering pre-HS used to be the rage and then that didn’t work so well. Now the trend is offering everyone under the sun.

I am not finding fault here, it just seems kinda like the arms race: “If someone else does that, then we better get in too.”

I am just looking for the domino effect when all the recruits fall into our collective lap.

  • Tucson Hoosier

I was trying to hit reply and I hit the arrow down key. Sorry. Good play on words though….. Touché

  • Daburns0

I think Ctc is doing this to drum up business for ITH. I bet there will be some new forum members soon. I knew Alex had the ins with coach.

  • SCHoosier

I think he just named IU to one of his top five and has committed to attend Hoosier Hysteria in early Oct./

  • Remy Willing and Abell

Hey Kyle Guy played a pick up game with Remy Abell . That means I have more time until I have to change my username !

  • Snookafly

If you hit the arrow again it will remove it.

  • Dagwoods

I realize (and understand) that he doesn’t want to waste his time visiting schools that haven’t offered a scholarship, but scholarships can be earned too. If he really wanted to come here, he could show up and show everybody up in open gym and earn that scholarship offer. Sometimes you have to go out and take whats yours.

  • Dagwoods

Blackmon simply stated that he wanted to reopen his recruitment and be able to compare schools to make sure he made the right decision. Looks like he’s sticking to that plan. I doubt we’re really his #1 though, but , who knows.

  • Tucson Hoosier

    Sweet

  • Andrew

Who’s getting on his case? I just don’t think we should continue to recruit him. This board is so predictable. Everyone brings up their kids, why? Believe it or not, I am well aware that JBJ is a teenager, not a 30 year-old man. I’m not suggesting we publicly chastise him or badmouth him. I just think we should recruit ppl we have a shot at, b/c we have no shot at this guy. Just one couch potato’s opinion, of course, your majesty.

  • PV Mike

On a recruiting sidenote, Emmanuel Mudiay has stated he will make his college announcement tomorrow night at the Under Armour Game in Brooklyn. Some consider him the top PG prospect for 2014 and a lock for UK. Now the word is he is announcing SMU as his choice. Yes I got this off a UK site.

  • hoosierj

I really hope they roll out the red carpet for Whitehead, he looks like a “Crean type guard” I would love it if he commits this weekend, then watch others commit.

I would like to see these guys playin for the Hoosiers. Goodluck, Whitehead, Exum and still would like to see Blackmon come to IU.

  • AKA Hoosier Daddy

Totally agree with your statement but on the other hand CTC and staff are definitely ready for this im sure and besides why would he come to IU for a CREAN CAMP in the first place? I wander where dear ole dad is? Didn’t JBJ have somewhere else to be this weekend but he is at IU…HMMM something fishy is going on here maybe JBJ’s heart is in INDIANA and just needs some encouragement from VO on how to deal with decisions.

  • Snookafly

He seems like a good kid. I just really wonder what is happening behind the scenes. I understand his dad wanting his son interested in his alma mater, but I was sure JBJ wanted IU. I would also like to know if there is a coach or parent connected with Spiece Indy Heat that has an axe to grind with IU.

  • IU 89

See my comment on Hoosier Scoop after the article posted Friday about the recruits. I think I figured it all out (maybe not).

  • 502hoohoo

This Abell thing irks me. He leaves us when we need him most, and then comes back to Bton where CTC gushes over him? Not saying we should have disdain for the kid, but he chose to leave… why is he back? And why are we swooning?

  • LitteringAnd

In other news, Ron Patterson has looked TERRIBLE offensively for Syracuse in all 3 games they’ve played in Canada. He’s a big strong kid who can play some defense but is a total liability on offense. He went 1-12 from the floor in his second game. Losing him is a blessing as he looks like it will take 4 full years for him to develop anything offensively. What I’m saying is that what originally appears to be bad news in a transfer or loss of a recruit often turns out for the best.

  • SCHoosier

Remy did what he needed to do for more playing time and in the process helped IU have a roster slot for the players being hosted this weekend..plus others. Seems to me that it worked out for both parties..and glad to see Remy back on campus. Of course if IU meets him along the tournament trail somewhere I hope we scorch him!
