Jordan Hulls excited for opportunity in Poland

IUJackITH0003Former Indiana guard Jordan Hulls has agreed to play professionally beginning in August for¬†Energa Czarni Slupsk, a member of the Polish Basketball League, and he’s excited about the opportunity.

Hulls, who scored 1,318 points over a four-year career in Bloomington and helped lead Indiana to a Big Ten championship and back-to-back Sweet 16’s, will depart for Poland in August.

“My agent has been working really hard trying to find the best deal for me financially and obviously playing wise,” Hulls told Inside the Hall Tuesday morning. “You want to keep moving your way up when you go overseas and eventually get looked at and then hopefully try to get back over here to play in the NBA. That’s the ultimate goal, obviously.”

Several NBA teams, including the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons, had expressed interest in Hulls for summer league opportunities. But with most of those rosters finalized, Hulls will go to Poland and begin to earn a living.

“It doesn’t get much better than that, playing a game for your work,” he said. “I still have a passion for it. I still want to continue to play and get better. So that’s the main thing for me. Making some money out of it doesn’t hurt either. I’m really happy about the opportunity that has presented itself to me.”

Hulls said his agent has given him a good idea of what to expect when he arrives in Poland.

“My agent (Sean Kennedy) actually played ball over there himself, so he’s told me a little bit about how things work,” Hulls said. “He loved playing there. The fans are great, so it’s going to be a cool environment to play in.”

With the news of the overseas deal for Hulls, four Indiana players from the 2012-2013 team are slated to play professionally next season.

Victor Oladipo was the No. 2 pick overall to the Orlando Magic in last week’s NBA Draft and Cody Zeller went No. 4 to the Charlotte Bobcats. Christian Watford was not selected in the draft, but will try to earn his way onto a NBA roster through the summer league as he’ll play for Indiana Pacers in the Orlando summer league and the Dallas Mavericks in the Las Vegas summer league.

for the amount of time jordan has invested in his game, for his tireless work ethic and improvement over the past 4 years, i am not only overwhelming happy for him but hope he’ll one day have the opportunity to dress for an NBA team. outside of his superlative shooting skills, he possesses two very significant intangibles when he plays: mental toughness (to borrow from coach crean) and heart. wherever it may lead him, i wish mr. hulls nothing but the best in his professional basketball career. he has done hoosier nation proud!

He’s going to play on my men’s league team… And I’ll give him a ride when ever he needs it, also buy his gatorade, so that’s kinda like pro ball.

    He will be satisfied!

I’ll miss the post-warmup tradition of no huddle until Jordy makes a three from the top of the arc. Usually a very short tradition…

This is really random but I watched Hulls’ agent Sean Kennedy play in high school and college. Guy was one of the best high school players I’ve ever seen. Went to St. Dominic high school in Long Island then played college ball at Marist. Hulls has always reminded me of him. Really funny that he wound up being his agent.
