Jeremy Hollowell reinstated, eligible to play at Iowa

  • 12/30/2012 4:50 pm in

IUNDSITH0010Earlier this afternoon, Indiana Athletics Director Fred Glass announced that IU freshman Jeremy Hollowell has been reinstated and will be eligible to play Monday afternoon as the Hoosiers open Big Ten play in Iowa City.

Here’s the complete statement from Glass:

Earlier today we were advised by the NCAA that they have accepted our self-reported secondary violation involving Jeremy Hollowell and, consistent with our proposal, immediately reinstated his eligibility. He will travel with the rest of the team to Iowa and be eligible to play in that game and all other games going forward. I would like to thank the NCAA for its assistance and responsiveness, especially during this holiday season when their office is officially closed.

I also thank Jeremy Hollowell and his mother Chandra Lockett who raised this issue and have continued to be forthright and forthcoming throughout this matter. Finally, I thank our athletic department and men’s basketball staff who worked diligently and professionally to help bring this to a positive conclusion.  I am proud of how Indiana University has handled this situation. We will release the details of this matter later this week. Until then we will have no further comment.

Hollowell has appeared in 10 games this season and has averaged 5.7 points and 3.0 rebounds.

He last played in the Hoosiers’ 88-86 overtime loss to Butler on Dec. 15.

Good to have you back, Jeremy.

  • Joshy Jayson

Man a lot of you should post apologies on here, this kid may have a quiet demeanor, but a loooooooot of you jumped to bad conclusions and sounded like dumb old guys -guy who will be banned again by the supppppper cool mods, man I wish I could be a internet mod toooooooo! life isn’t fair

  • Baxter

Great news for Jeremy and IU

  • WhatsUpKnight

i’m so glad nobody overreacted or drew premature conclusions (not excluding myself from this sarcastic remark). welcome back jh!

  • Great now lets go at the Hawkeyes tomorrow and get us a dub!!!

Good to have Jeremy back. Still waiting for Crean to sit out a few games since he continues to oversee the program and recruit kids who bring violations along with them. Regardless of Jeremy’s violation, self reported or not, Crean is ultimately responsible for the men’s basketball program and he needs to be held accountable.

  • Remy Willing and Abell

Sweet and now he can play his normal position now that HMP and PJ are back ! Good to have everyone back now( – Creek and Etherington ) .

  • dbmcubs21

Because he obviously had knowledge of this right? How ignorant can you be? You act like IU knows about these things and then tries to hide them from NCAA. IU and Crean get blindsided with this stuff and self-report (which most schools don’t do which is why they stay out of trouble).

  • Someone had to take the fall for losing to Butler.

    I kid.

Welcome back, Jeremy. I’m sorry you had to take a leave of absence from the team!

  • HoosierGrad07

    ridiculous comment…

you’re right, Crean should go through every single friend or acquaintance that every single parent or uncle or aunt of every single recruit has had in their entire lives to make sure no one could be a potential violation. I mean, that comment was so ignorant I assume you’re trolling. That’s what you’re doing right? Please let that be it…

I doubt that PJ will see many more minutes this season. If he didn’t play any more against Jacksonville and FAU than he did, I don’t see him logging much time in B1G games.

  • jcopey

Woohoo! This is great news on the eve of the Real Season. We will need his versatility, shooting, rebounding and defense. Elston is still ramping up and is not quite ready yet. Jeremy has a ton to offer – he can thrive at the 3 and become a matchup nightmare for some teams. Let’s get a win tomorrow!

Now that you mention it, i think Coach may be responsible for the economy as well. This guy is totally a bad person.

  • Arch_Puddington

Superhoops, I’m ready for you to sit out a few games.

  • IUMIKE1

Sorry your comment was so ” troll like ” I almost forgot to hit the down button but fortunately I came to my senses in time to hit it.

  • IUMIKE1

Yea we can probably just about use the amount of PJ’s minutes as a barometer of how well our conference run is going.

  • Sometimes the mods here seem more like an extension of IU’s public relations office and less like journalists. Had there been more honest questions while Sampson was coach, the program would have not had to suffer through a few dark years.

  • unclekerfuffle

And all this time we’ve been told it was President Bush–now everything makes complete sense–NOT.

Love your sense of humor, Milla.

I guess there is still no word on the nature of Creek’s injury or its severity. I don’t understand the perceived need for secrecy regarding many of this team’s injuries.

  • What would Sampsom have done? Self-reporting is the essence of character. Much respect to the current leadership.

  • Bob

do you really think you will get the real truth ?…It’s college athletics and you know everything is hush-hush and done in secret….not picking on IU only…It’s all the schools….

  • Benhyoung14

I was more excited with Hollwell’s signing than HMP, or Yogi’s and still am. Maybe I have a fondness for 4 year players. Just think how big we’d be playing with him in the lineup at the 3, and couple of bigs at the 4 and 5.

  • Benhyoung14

It’ll be really interesting when it comes out. If the Hollowell family was approached then it’ll be really interesting to see what the NCAA does.

  • SCHoosier

My heating bill was twice this month what it was last..and I’m personally holding Tom Crean responsible. (My statement..dumb as it is..makes more sense than superhoops does)

  • Andrew

I thought I saw a tweet that said Jurkin is still wearing an air cast on his foot? Is that true? I also don’t see him getting many minutes but you never know with the Big 10. All it takes is a sprained ankle and a little foul trouble and he could be thrust into the mix.

  • Boytz

“Reinstated” seems an odd choice of words — I didn’t realize anybody took his eligibility away.

  • MillaRed

Since the season started I saw many different opinions/concerns about Jeremy. Personally, I think his future is a pretty big deal. Jeremy needs to mature. Probably a lot. He is not the star of the show right now and I think that is hard for him to deal with.

He reminds me a lot of CWat in the early years but I think his ceiling is much higher. Especially on the boards.

Give this kid an off-season in the weight room and I think we will see a solid contributor in 2013.

  • Benhyoung14

Forwarded a call to Painter and say he did it.

  • Benhyoung14

None of this would have happened if we hadn’t self reported. If IU wasn’t as upstanding as it is Patterson would be allowed to play, but that might not be whats best for him. Lets be honest, Jurkin wouldn’t have been recruited if we weren’t as low as we were. I’m not knocking Jurkin at all, but I wouldn’t take that many chances on overseas players today.

  • Benhyoung14

    Whoa, that was close.

  • Benhyoung14

Get him hanging with Sheehee and VO, and we’ll see how high his ceiling is.
