• yeah, but can he block shots?

  • SCHoosier

this guy would be sweet to get..but he ain’t coming to IU. Notice Tom Izzo front and center at center court. MSU can REALLY use this guy..not that IU couldn’t..but its not in the cards.

  • Recruits don’t choose schools based on which one their utility would best be spent at.

  • DeeLyle

He can block shots, but he can’t finish at the rim…

  • he’s a beast, but don’t like to see him choke a high school game!

  • HoosierPat

He can block shots and dunk. Those are really the only positives I took from the video. He didn’t play much defense other than blocking shots and seemed more worried about making a ridiculous put back dunk than just putting the ball in the hoop.

  • IU_Fan_99

You know… His arms look a little short. Stubby almost… Not the best wingspan…

  • Miamihoosier

If he does go to MSU, a Junior Year Hanner Perrea will be able to wear this kid out. 2014 doesn’t offer much in Bigs ranked 1-50. We aren’t in the running for Okafor or Lyles, so if this kid passes there really isn’t anyone else to go after. We will have to go for size in 2015. I really want us to get Dwayne Morgan. Give me Blackmon and Robinson in the backcourt, with Morgan, Williams, and Perrea, and we can win a national title while breaking the NCAA’s all time record for dunks in a season…..that team would be one of the most athletic the Big Ten has ever fielded…..(this is assuming Vonleh is a one and done…..if he isn’t watch out)

  • Wish I could tell u I like this guy , but I don’t like 6 10 guys that cherry pick. How bout gettin back on defense big guy.

  • Kenneth234

Certainly wouldn’t stop recruiting him based on one game. He has an edge on the glass and blocking shots, but he does not seem to be all that tall. Plus, did he do anything besides try to dunk on offense and he looked shaky at the end of the game. But he does seem more like a Michigan St type player. But if he wanted to come, he looks like a 3 to 4 year player, and at that point…I think all Hoosier fans would love what he brought.

  • Evansville Hoosier

    Like a T-Rex almost.

  • Evansville Hoosier

Agree with everything you said, and I think that’s why Crean is after Marcus Derrickson in 2015. Also I think Dwayne Morgan could play a stretch 4 like Watford does for us, supposedly he’s gonna keep growing til he’s 6’10″… Really think he’ll be a special player as a wing, Rudy Gay like

  • N71

For fun, most athletic Big Ten team ever, 1989 Illinois. Most athletic teams ever outside the Big Ten, Houston 1982 and UNLV 1991. Agree, the IU team you’re forecasting could rival those squads.

  • N71

Kevin Willis, Michigan State. I wouldn’t mess with the guy though.

  • BlakeD1223

good at rebounds and at blocking shots….. in HS. College will be much different. Also, if he didn’t have such horrible technique with his left foot pointed at the baseline on his free throws then maybe he wouldn’t have missed so many. If the big guy hits his free throws then they win the game. Hard to judge off of one game but I’m sure he’ll improve as well.

  • Joe B

    If I see one more one-handed rebound…
Obviously, the defense is there and the size is pretty much there, but offensively and maybe even personality wise, there is alot of work to do.

  • This is big business. It is not this purity of spiirit that some college sports fans make it out to be. Colleges, coaches, administrators, networks all make millions. The young people who are the actual attraction make a scholarship. CTC is a businessman trying to compete without getting caught cheating too much. He parlells Sampson at Oklahoma – caught with only a little bit of his hand in the cookie jar so far. I remember defending Sampson early on at IU saying that he was just a little slimey. Let’s see how it all works out for CTC. He was caught cheating a little already associating with the booster who gave thousnds of dollars against the rules to physically gifted young people from the third world. Were these recruits even worth cheating for? What are their high school stats – something like 10 points and five rebounds in high school? Will he get caught again? This is looking like it did when Eric Gordon (a recruit stolen fair and square) was a freshman; they have a top team led by a coach with a history of being caught cheating. This can all come down like a house of cards just like it did back then.

  • MillaRed

What in the H are you talking about? Stop trolling.

  • Evansville Hoosier

problem is I don’t think anyone is saying Crean is “just a little slimey”, I think we’ve said he isn’t at all. A-HOPE and Mark Adams have brought something like 20 players here, 3 have attended IU… and is it that weird to think that the state school of the state they were brought to would be their first choice, where their AAU friends and teammates are going? And still, even though Crean was in no way involved in this “cheating” IU self-reported the incident, as they did as well with the secondary incident of calling during a dead period. Do you know how many coaches probably do that and don’t think twice about it?
Also there’s the whole matter of players graduating in 3 years under Crean and IU having an APR of 1000 or near it during his tenure; pretty different from Sampson.
But that was a valiant effort to be an annoying pessimist; all the same, the parallelism you speak of isn’t obvious, it isn’t evident, and it isn’t real. We appreciate your input.

  • Evansville Hoosier

I was originally really hoping to get Alexander… but the personality thing is scaring me off as well

  • b_side

Highly doubt he’s a 3-4 year player. Based on his rating (5-star, Top 5 ranking in his class regardless of position), I’d guess he’s one and done barring a major injury. He’s a man among boys now and will be as a Freshman wherever he lands.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen other videos on youtube and this clip doesn’t do him justice.

  • HoosierTrav

I agree! he’s not coming to IU. No chance. I’ve been following this kid closely and he’s almost a sure lock for MSU or UK. I’m not too concerned about it. HMP with 2 years of experience under CTC is going to be a better player for the 1 year this kid will be @ UK. I feel sorry for him if Vonleh decides on a 2nd year too.

  • Not impressed. Life’s a lot different in the B1G than it is in high school.

  • calbert40

I agree. The ’14 class is pretty thin in impact bigs. I think that is why when Lyles decommited, CTC went hard to the ’13 class to pick up Vonleh.

Once ’14 rolls around, barring something unforseen, we should have Perea, Jurkin, Fischer and Vonleh as bigs. Pretty set, IMO. Of course, if Cody plays it like his brothers, maybe he will be there as a senior too (haha)!

I just don’t think guys like Alexander (or Anya for that matter) fit our up tempo style of play. CTC wants bigs who can run the floor, and I feel like these types of bigs are plodders. Don’t get me wrong, I think he is a strong player, but I hope he ends up wearing someone else’s colors….just not Green and White either!!

  • Kenneth234

I am not so sure…class rankings and high school evaluations doesn’t necessarily translate into ability to go pro. But sometimes it does.

Rvials Top 5 Rankings for each of the last 3 years:

2011 – Rivers, Davis, MKG, Beal, Teague

2010 – Selby (bust), Barnes, Kanter, Irving, Sullinger, Knight (ranked 6th to balance out Selby)

2009 – Wall, Cousins, Favors, Bradley, Henson

Out of the 15 players listed above, only Selby is an admitted bust. All left after 1-2 years and were first round picks (except Selby), most of whom were taken in the lottery.
