2014 forward Trey Lyles reopens his recruitment

Indiana’s top rated recruit in the class of 2014 has decided to reopen the recruiting process.

Trey Lyles, who committed to the Hoosiers on September 26 of 2010, is no longer committed to Indiana according to his high school coach at Indianapolis Tech, Jason Delaney.

“Trey Lyles has decided to open his recruitment,” Delaney wrote on his Twitter account this afternoon. “He loves IU & it is still #1 but he would like to have something to compare it to.”

What Lyles will have to compare Indiana to will likely be several of the nation’s top schools.

The 6-foot-9 forward is a consensus top 10 player nationally and had a strong summer playing for Spiece Indy Heat and Team Canada in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship and the Nike Global Challenge.

As a sophomore at Tech, he averaged 21.0 points and 14.2 rebounds and was named the City Player of the Year.

I agree, someone needs to get in his ear and mention that your first instinct is usually right for a reason.

What in the world does Roth sticking around for a 5th year have to do with Trey de-commiting after his HS Freshman campaign? Maybe i’m totally stupid, but i don’t see ANY connection. Enlighten me.

Hmmm. I understand your argument for one and done’s wanting to maximize their exposure and put up insane stats. I wonder though if Dwanye Wade’s success in the NBA can sway a kid. Trey needs to determine which coach is going to develop his all around game and mold him to be an MVP in the league instead of just getting him into the Top 10 in the NBA draft. I’ll bet on Indiana still.

He’s not playing AAU ball in Canada. He is not going to college in Canada, He is not playing for an NBA team in Canada.

I’m with glotz, something a little strange in his decision making.

  • I have a lot of mixed feelings about this!!

Ding ding ding. Your last sentence. Strange chain of events. Why decommit when things are going great. I say who cares and bring on Anya and Ojeleye or however you spell it.
Any guy that doesn’t want to be a part of an in state program on the rise BACK to the TOP is just looking for a bigger better deal that probably isn’t there. Good luck to him but no tears here.

    100% agree

Good I am all ready over it!

If Indiana is still his No.1 choice, it will most likley stay No.1 after looking at other schools! The Hoosiers have everything going right now, including his home state…
