Coach Knight doesn’t like the “coach” or that school from the SEC for good reason.  I’m puzzled why Coach Crean does.

  • HoosierDadE

I tried to show this letter to a pUKe fan/student as proof pUKe backed out…

He didn’t understand, probably because he was distracted trying to stay between the lines while coloring (I think it was his senior thesis)

  • dtfreed

UK is about one step away from a major NCAA violation, so I don’t why IU expects any sense of fair play, or compromise from them. I like the tone of the letter though.

  • HoosierDadE

    The real question is thus…

    How many pUKe fans
    A) Understood all the words
    B) Read it at all
    C) Started coloring

i didn’t think it possible that i could have less respect for Uk.   i was wrong….

  • HoosierPat

That last paragraph made me laugh out loud. Way to tell him how it is Mr. Glass.

  • Rikker68

Obviously it must be a big deal to pUKe fans otherwise why would they be on an IU site talking about how obsessed IU fans are. That’s rich!

  • IUJarbo

This game meant so little to one pUKe fan that he felt it necessary to go on an IU site to read about it, scroll through all the comments and finally post himself about how little it mattered to he and his ilk.  Is that hypocrisy I smell?

  • calbert40

Iron sharpens iron.  Who on earth is UK going to play?  The SEC is a joke of epic proportions in basketball, and they are getting rid of any powerhouse opponents in the non-conference portion of the schedule.

Seems like Cal is longing for the schedule he had at UMass!  They can’t (scratch that…won’t) move Portland from their schedule for us?

All hyperbole aside, UK fans should be ashamed of this development.  I would be if IU did this.

I didn’t know anyone from UK ever made it to senior year.  I thought they all left after Freshman year!

  • calbert40

I am certain it was accidental, but you did get one thing right in your post.  It was UK who ended the rivalry not IU.  The reason that we are upset is that we were really looking forward to bringing the #1 team in the nation down to Lexington and whipping you.  Coach Cal didn’t want that (who can blame him) and ended the rivalry.

BTW – I wouldn’t put that banner up too high.  It will be expensive to have to rent the scissor lift twice…once to put it up, and once again to take it down.

  • marcusgresham

This increases the odds tenfold that the two will be in the same regional.  Oh, wait, my bad–I forgot the NCAA doesn’t set stuff like that up.

     1-Indiana16-Lamar

     3-Kentucky
14-Florida International (with new coach, Richard Pitino)

Can you imagine the demand of that ticket? Next time uk comes to bloomington?

  • iufan4life10

And you just happened to find your way to an IU board and post a comment about it…

I think the letter represented more of an open handed slap than finger pointing.  However, it is pretty obvious where the blame lies and there is no need for finger pointing.

  • HoosierGrl21

I too live in the Louisville area and I’m an IU alum.  It is annoying to see UK fans flaunt their championship shirts and hear them beam with pride for Calipari.  I wait for the day when it all comes crashing down on him…while he is at UK!

  • IU > uk

to expect anything but irrationality, arrogance and ignorance from any member of bbn is a rookie mistake.  you know better after meeting just one of them.

    Thank you Fred Glass!

    I HATE KENTUCKY

  • SS8941

From the way this is going, I seriously doubt that Crean and Calipari share a whole lot of friendly dialogue anymore.

  • Bryan

He also tried to weasel out of the Memphis-Tennessee series.  The only thing stopping him from carrying that out was that Tennessee had leverage in the form of a football game that the Memphis athletic department badly needed, so a very grumpy Cal was forced to play in Knoxville every other year.

  • Feathery Hoops

    pUKe record under Cal:
(after IU victory in December ’11)
    38-0  home
    23-3  neutral
    11-10 road

    stats tell all!!!

  • Thomas

I would love for the series to continue but also do not want to give into kentucky’s our way or the highway approach to this. I think Indiana is handling this the correct way.

Shane..aren’t u and your buddies scheduled to go out and burn some cars tonight in prep for next season?

  • BFowler

    Fellow Hoosiers Fans,
While we appreciate and love what our leadership is doIng, and feel our fan base, interests, and traditions are being respected, we must remember that we are a fan base that appreciates and considers ourselves to be “traditional.” We love things like regional rivalries, the under 8 minute “William Tell” time out, and even something like the mop lady.

We must remember that all programs do not consider themselves traditional. We must also remember that the BBN did not have a good experience the last time they visited the Hoosier state. Therefore, we must come to the conclusion that it matters very little to them to come back. Whether or not fear of an L on the record plays into the equation does not really matter, the fact remains that those who make the decisions in Lexington have chosen not to play this game. It seems the TV exposure and the hype surrounding the game would do wonders for recruiting, but apparently, some think playing Portland does too. There may even be something to the fact it would hurt Indiana’s recruiting as well.

I will end this manifesto by saying that we should just let it go. We will miss the game, but we are left with an outstanding memory. Let’s hope our season ends the way theirs did last season.

  • HoosierB

Bottom Line:  Kentucky is afraid to play IU in Bloomington because it will ruin Coach Cal’s chances of his final goal as a college coach: an undefeated season.  I say BOO Kentucky!  And also hiss.

  • Robert Sales

Fine. UK is just putting off the game until the tournament. Sure, have it that way. We’ll just beat you then.

New banners in Assembly Hall are going to look very nice.

  • This thread has gone off topic in a lot of places, so the comments will be cleaned up.

I think we’ve established a pretty good understanding of what is and what is not acceptable to post, so please keep it in mind before posting something out of line. Thanks.

  • Devout Hoosier

Props to Fred Glass, Tom Crean, & Indiana University.

I posted previously critisizing both sides and demanding they reach a compromise.  I’m very glad our school reached out and tried.  Our university and administration continue to make the alumni proud.

This shows the true colors of KY and their coach.  Dispicable.  What a terrible thing for KY and IN students.  Terrible for KY student athletes, planning only 1-2 years of college for all. Terrible for the state of KY.  Terrible for all of college basketball to lose this matchup among two of the top programs of all time.  Calipari only wants big venues at high prices.  He needs to get out of college basketball.

  • HoosierTrav

I wish i could like this comment more than once

  • plane1972

Not sure how in demand it will be. Kentucky will be a decimated program the next time we play in Bloomington. This all points to just how misguided this program is under its current “leadership”. It will be an epic fall.

  • plane1972

If you play cupcakes all year long, you will not win your last game of the season. I have no fear of Kentucky going undefeated. A tested team will beat them in the dance.

Um…wow. Having read (and written) a few political letters in my time, this is an amazingly pointed middle finger eff-you of a letter.

    And I love it.

Personally, I do not want this series to continue. Playing Kentucky under John Calipari inherently means rewarding him. It means Kentucky will earn ticket revenue from IU’s willingness to play them. It means they will earn television exposure from IU’s willingness to play them. It evidently means helping them buy out a game as a result of IU’s willingness to play them.

Calipari represents everything that threatens what college basketball should be about. That’s what’s most amazing about the man…that the beliefs and practices of a single individual would encompass nearly every force that is eroding the foundation of college basketball. IU should not do ANYTHING that enables, rewards, or signals approval of him and his “non-traditional” program.

Beyond even Calipari, though, I am just tired of their fans and tired of their nonsense. I am tired of hearing the BS about Assembly Hall was the equivalent of downtown Baghdad circa 2005 after last year’s game. I am tired of hearing how rushing the floor after beating #1-ranked team…a long tradition in college basketball…is inappropriate celebration but burning couches and shooting people is all in good fun. I am tired of hearing about a shrine to last year’s game that does not exist. I am tired of high school dropout hilljacks who make murals of a one-and-done rent-a-player out of freaking cereal and yet do not understand that they are absolute, risible buffoons. I am tired of hearing how the fact that their coach has never actually been pinned with violations makes him innocent when the real truth is that it just makes like John Gotti before his eventual fall.

I just plain want a divorce. And I am glad, as now appears plain, that that divorce has been established.

  • HoosierRyno

I live and work in Kentucky and started chuckling at that comment Scott. Thanks for that!

  • IURob1997

I live in Louisville also and can’t stand Cal and the fans adoration of him.
However I am disappointed with Crean and Glass for not taking Pitino up on a series with UL.  It’s a game that would be great for the area and the schools.

  • And_One

This incident should remove all doubt that the tail is wagging the dog at UK.

Agreed that people don’t get it! I’m from the Paducah area, deep behind enemy lines and half of their trash talk doesn’t even make sense! Many of them don’t even know that they are still 2nd when it comes to number of championships (ever heard of UCLA?)

  • Daburns0

Ok, well we tried.  Let’s move on and look forward to a big year coming up.  I could really care less.  I think UK has got some bad stuff coming their way.  They will soon learn to loathe the name Calipari.

Love Fred Glass and how he represents not only the university but us as fans.  On another note, the new freshies should be headed to campus in a couple weeks right?
