Per IU Media Relations:

The Indiana University men’s basketball team has completed its 2011-12 schedule with the addition of an exhibition game on Saturday, November 5 at Assembly Hall against the University of Indianapolis. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on

“Our goal in scheduling our exhibition games is to find programs that will best prepare us for the upcoming season, “ said IU Coach Tom Crean. “Having the opportunity to schedule a team with strong local ties is an added bonus. Stan (Gouard) and his staff have done a great job in a short period of time, which is evident by their win at Tennessee last year.”

The Greyhounds were 19-9 last season and return three starters. The two teams last met in an exhibition game on November 10, 2006 in Assembly Hall with the Hoosiers taking an 83-46 triumph. A year earlier to the day, IU also defeated the Greyhounds, 96-49 in Bloomington in another preseason exhibition.

The Hoosiers will open the season on Friday, November 11 and will host Stony Brook at 7 p.m.

This says it completes their schedule, but don’t they always play two exhibition games?

take note:  if you sign up  on the Big Ten Online Network to stream the game, make sure to CANCEL your subscription after this exhibition game (they will automatically bill you the following month for another month of streaming). I had to go through a whole ordeal to cancel it last year… that is, unless you want to watch Indiana men’s curling all winter long online…

  • I believe that’s been the case in the past, but this is the only one this year. Like most college teams, they’ll probably also play a closed scrimmage against another school, but details are not made public.

    Thanks Alex, appreciate your response.

Oh, everyone knows only the IU Women’s Curling team is worth watching.  Men’s Curling hasn’t been the same since the broom-stuffing scandal of ’05.

Let’s hope they aren’t any better than Ferris State, ha!     Thanks again Alex and contributors, for making this the best college basketball website in existence. Ever notice how many fans of other teams have to come on here to post things about their teams?  The websites dedicated to other programs don’t hold a candle to the quality and quantity found on this site………… guys help make the long off season bearable…….Bravo……….37 more days!

Alex, know this doesn’t have anything to do with this story but do you know about the practice last saturday that about 300 fans went to? I thought the team was only allowed group workouts right now?

You are dead on there sir, I have the Purdue women’s team calendar hanging in my office, each one looks like an East German Weightlifter……………we throw darts at it on lunch break….

I like it when IU plays their exhibitions against teams from Indiana.  Also, do remember that Indianapolis beat Tennessee last season.  Hopefully they can provide a challenge this year.  Hopefully not as much as Ferris State though.

Also make sure to keep a fifth of your favorite adult beverage handy, as you’ll need it to help you endure the lackluster commentary by whatever BTN interns they commission to call the game.

So it was a workout? Some people said it looked like an actual practice.

  • It was a group workout.
