Video: Zeller reacts to 79-71 win over Evansville Bosse
EVANSVILLE — Bosse coach Shane Burkhart spoke with no reservation in his praise for Cody Zeller following his team’s 79-71 loss to Washington on Friday night.
Despite scouting the 6-10 IU signee three different times, Burkhart and the Bulldogs had no answer for Zeller, who scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down 20 rebounds.
The Bosse coach called the effort “phenomenal.”
“How can you stop him?” Burkhart said. “You can’t. If you go to him and he’s 15-feet away, he can see over everybody. At the same time, we go and double team him and he turns around and gets an open look for somebody else.”
Zeller, who missed a stretch of nearly six minutes in the second half with four fouls, displayed the versatility that’s helped him blossom into one of the nation’s best players.
He drew contact and went to the line 17 times, hitting 13 attempts. He spun baseline for a two-handed dunk. He knocked down a few looks from the perimeter. And he even pitched in with ball handling duties late when Bosse turned up the full court pressure.
