Video: Crean talks Guy-Marc, Oladipo, Sheehey

  • 06/07/2010 12:32 pm in

Before we get to the aforementioned video, I’d like to publicly begin a campaign for Tom Crean to wear his crimson blazer in a game next season. In case you’re unaware of the story behind the blazer, Crean received it as a gift from Fuzzy Zoeller, the professional golfer from Southern Indiana who is also a huge supporter of IU athletics. Anyway, it’s time to take the blazer to the next level, Coach. I’m thinking it would look good at next season’s Purdue game at Assembly Hall. Who’s with me?

Now, onto the task at hand. Following his appearance at Huber’s last Wednesday, Crean talked about each member of the incoming recruiting class. The video, courtesy of Rick Bozich, is below for your viewing pleasure:

I would like to see the staff bring in Kareem to tutor Guy-Marc on the art of the sky hook. I'll never understand why no one uses the most indefensible move in the history of the game.

If Bruce Pearl can wear that butt ugly creamsicle orange, then I firmly believe a red blazer will actually be styling, even more so at Purdue!!! I also hope Oladipo & Sheehey bring some more toughness as Crean says, for the Big Ten will not get any softer, (just maybe a bit bigger.) :o)

Hulls is the teams best overall PG in my opinion if you consider:
    + Turnovers
+ Ability to make good decisions
    + Shooting
    + F/T shooting
+ Defense- No hulls is not the defensive stopper but I cannot say he hurt IU defensively.
    + Leadership

Ok, so the Indiana Elite camp is this weekend…Aaron Thomas will be there, IU will offer him, and lets go with Monday at the latest he commits to IU. Who among us will be upset? As you know IU will not sign both Thomas and Davis….IMO….

I would be thrilled….AT is Mo Creek 2.0

A recent recap from his last AAU tourney.

“All weekend long Thomas continued his assent onto the national scene. His ball handling is continuing to improve, and that is allowing him to take advantage of all his natural gifts. At 6-foot-5 with long arms, Thomas can get his shot off in traffic and when contested. His athleticism makes him a terror in the open floor. Thomas was vital in Queen City's run to the championship where he scored over 20 and put the game away with his play. Defensively he still needs to learn to be a lockdown guy, but the tools are there for him on that end of the floor as well. Now a four-star prospect, Thomas showed why he is beginning to become a highly touted prospect.

*Anything* Dicky V says is annoying. When IU is on ESPN and he's announcing, I turn the TV on mute and tune in a radio station. … and this is coming from a guy (me) that actually likes John Madden, so it's not like I'm someone with a ridiculously low tolerance level. But please give me credit for “AThom Bomb” …

I'm also all about kids that want to be at IU and I wanted us to offer him after I saw his interview at the AMC (and read reports that he was wearing an IU t-shirt).

I'm not worried about Matta or Calipari getting involved … it's very late in the game for that. Besides, Matta is too busy keeping the funnel from Indy to Columbus in good shape (jeez, when will that end? I realize the kid he got this year is from Ft. Wayne, but seriously, why are these kids going to OSU? I guess I'd rather see that than Purdue or UK, but still, barf.)

I’d take 10 hours of Dick Vitale over 10 seconds of Bill Raftery

Yes to you and “maybe” to Kelin.

Hulls should fill the wing in transition if he is not often going to be pushing it upcourt.

In the secondary offense in half court he could be our best PG option but this assumes :

    1) Jones does not develop a 3pt shot
    2) Hulls finds a way to penetrate
    3) Rivers is still clanking the rim on FT's and pull ups

You've been driving the AThomas train for a while and I'm definitely aboard (although that does give us five guys at 6'4″ or 6'5″ for next year … but I'd love it if somehow we turned him into a combo guard with ballhandling responsibilities; I'm thinking a more dribble-drive capable, less turnover-prone VJ3)

Just one question though: can we call him the A-Thom Bomb after a long-range 3 or a dunk in traffic???

  • Kelin Blab

That is solid….A Thom Bomb. Dickey V would love that until he says it so much and it begins to annoy us all.

I am all about the kids like VO and Mo Creek, who want to be at IU, have talent, and are excited about the possibilities. Thomas has always spoken highly of IU, he is going to the elite camp, Crean will be front and center. I would be stunned if he didn't leave with an offer or get one shortly after. However, according to his HS AD Thomas has an IU offer…..Not to mention, apparently thomas has stirred up Matta and Calicheaty enough for them to make contact.

Also, how would you feel about driving the Mitch McGary train? (You already got the My Man Mitch thing going…) I'll shovel the coal or whatever. In my mind, I'm slowly beginning to prefer him to Zeller.

  • Kelin Blab

See….come Octoberish we may have to get this going….
    On Paper…

    + 6'10 —- 230
+ Can face up and handle the ball some for a post
    + Can shoot the 3
    + Physical player, good rebounder
    + Runs the floor well
+ More back to the basket than facing

    6'10 —- 205
+ Can face up and handle the ball some for a post
    + Can shoot the 3
+ Will mix it up inside, good rebounder
    + Runs the floor well
+ More facing the basket, than back to the basket

What hurts mitch, grades issue and his last name isn't Zeller…thats it! Having two other zeller brothers helps in the hype department and star ranking system. Cody is a helluva player, but can anyone tell me what he does that McGary cannot do…..

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Mitch could get up to 250 by the time his college career begins (esp. if he grows another inch), and that's enough to bang with the big boys in the B10. Tyler Zeller grew one inch and put on 25 pounds since his senior year–putting him at 240, which is great for the ACC–but that's still 15 pounds less than Bawa his senior year of high school. If Cody puts on 25 and grows an inch, he'll be 6'11″ and 230, which is a little heavier than JuJuan Johnson, but Cody doesn't have JJ's athletic ability does he?

I think Mitch could definitely play the 5 in college, whereas Zeller will most likely be a 4 for his college career (unless he starts pounding a 10 sack of White Castles every night before bed … he won't be having any girls over though).

Also, Mitch is just one spot–ONE!–away from being a four-star prospect (he's rated #101 and you need to be 100 or below to get four stars). If he has an injury-free senior season (or a good summer, which he's having), he'll be a four-star recruit when he's done.

    ooooo see I am a Raft guy….'Send it in'….

10 hours of Dick Vitale… isn't that what the al-Qaeda detainees at Guantanamo had to endure on a daily basis? Hell, that's too cruel on a YEARLY basis.

I tried to reply to this yesterday but was flagged for moderator approval, I think for using Baumgartner's first name, and it has still not posted.
