IU football falls in AP poll, holds steady in coaches’ poll after win against Rutgers

IU football fell one spot in this week’s Associated Press top 25 poll and held steady in the US LBM coaches’ top 25 poll after its Week 5 win against Rutgers.

The Hoosiers crushed the Scarlet Knights 47-15 on Saturday night at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Despite the comfortable win, Alabama leapfrogged IU in the AP poll and is now No. 6 with the Hoosiers at No. 7. The Crimson Tide routed Mississippi State 56-23 on Saturday in Starkville.

Indiana received one No. 1 vote in this week’s AP poll and eight No. 1 votes in the US LBM coaches’ poll. The Hoosiers have won 21 straight games.

The six teams ahead of IU in the AP poll are No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Miami (FL), No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Alabama.

In the coaches’ poll, the Hoosiers remain No. 5 behind No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 4 Miami (FL).

Beyond Ohio State and IU, Big Ten teams ranked in the AP poll this week include No. 13 Oregon, No. 19 USC, No. 20 Iowa and No. 21 UCLA.

Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska and Minnesota received votes.

After IU in the coaches’ poll from the Big Ten this week are No. 6 Ohio State, No. 13 Oregon, No. 17 USC, No. 18 Iowa and No. 22 UCLA.

Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Minnesota received votes.
