IU football falls in AP, coaches’ top 25 polls after win against Northwestern

IU football fell a spot in the Associated Press and US LBM coaches’ top 25 poll following its 29-23 win against Northwestern on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Hoosiers fell from No. 5 to No. 6 in the AP poll and from No. 4 to No. 5 in the coaches’ poll. Both polls were released on Sunday.

Indiana received one No. 1 vote in the AP poll and eight No. 1 votes in the coaches’ poll.

The Hoosiers are 4-0 following wins against North Texas, Howard, Western Kentucky and Northwestern to open the 2026 season.

The five teams ahead of IU in the AP poll are No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Miami (FL) and No. 5 Ohio State.

In the coaches’ poll, the Hoosiers are behind No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 4 Miami (FL).

Beyond Ohio State and IU, Big Ten teams ranked in the AP poll this week include No. 14 Iowa, No. 15 Oregon, No. 18 USC and No. 23 UCLA. Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern received votes.

After IU in the coaches’ poll from the Big Ten this week are No. 6 Ohio State, No. 14 Iowa, No. 15 Oregon, No. 18 USC, No. 22 Penn State, No. 23 UCLA and No. 24 Michigan. Nebraska, Wisconsin, Washington, Northwestern and Minnesota received votes.
