IU football climbs in AP, coaches’ polls following chaotic week

IU moved up in both national college football polls released Sunday afternoon after its easy Week 2 win against Howard.

The Hoosiers jumped up a spot in the latest AP poll and US LBM coaches poll.

Indiana, now No. 4 in both polls, made easy work of FCS opponent Howard on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, crushing the Bison 55-0.

The Hoosiers, the undefeated CFP national champion with a 16-0 record in the 2025 season, began the 2026 campaign ranked No. 6 in both polls.

IU coach Curt Cignetti is on the US LBM Board of Coaches for the 2026 season.

The two other highly rated Big Ten teams in the polls, Ohio State and Oregon, both fell after Saturday losses.

The Buckeyes, previously ranked No. 1, blew a 20-point lead and fell to Texas on Saturday night, while Oregon fell 39-31 at unranked Oklahoma State, a stunning result.

Ohio State is now No. 6 in the AP poll and No. 6 in the coaches’ poll and Oregon is No. 21 in the AP poll and No. 18 in the coaches’ poll.

Michigan had the most notable win this week among Big Ten teams. The Wolverines beat Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon and are now No. 19 in the AP poll and No. 19 in the coaches’ poll.

Indiana is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Western Kentucky in Bloomington. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Peacock.
