IU football earns a monumental commitment from five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales
Monshun Sales, a 6-foot-5, 201-pound wide receiver from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, IN, has earned two new titles within his home state.
On Friday, he became the first five-star commit in IU football history and the highest-rated commit in IU football history.
Sales announced his commitment to the Hoosiers live on The Pat McAfee Show. He chose Indiana over Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and LSU.
Sales is rated the No. 7 overall recruit and No. 2 wide receiver in the 2027 class by On3/Rivals and the No. 13 overall recruit and No. 1 wide receiver in the class by 247 Sports.
He is a consensus top-20 national recruit in the 2027 class by all of the major recruiting services.
The Hoosiers have now earned commitments from two of the top four players in the state of Indiana, according to the 247Sports rankings. Both are wide receivers. Brownsburg’s Branden Sharpe is rated the No. 2 wide receiver behind Sales. He committed on May 18.

In his junior season at Lawrence North, Sales hauled in 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. He caught 34 passes for 568 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore in 2024.
He continues the lineage of LN wide receivers, and quarterbacks turned wide receivers, to stay home and play for the Hoosiers. Donaven McCulley, Omar Cooper Jr. and Davion Chandler were crucial in establishing the pipeline.
McCulley and Cooper Jr. were both prized four-star recruits and are now in the NFL. Chandler has a promising future with the Hoosiers as a young piece in the wide receiver room. Now, with Sales continuing the LN legacy, Indiana can put together quite the pitch for future LN, and in-state, recruits to stay home.
As the first five-star commit in program history, Sales jumps past Dasan McCullough to become the top-rated commit for the cream and crimson.
Sales is the 17th commit in Indiana’s 2027 freshman class that will instantly rise up the team rankings with his addition.
July 17, 2026 will forever be stamped as a monumental day in the history of Indiana football recruiting history.
It serves as a testament to what Indiana has accomplished and a statement that says Indiana is not slowing down any time soon under Curt Cignetti.
The Hoosiers can hang with, and beat, the proverbial “big dogs” both on the field and on the recruiting trail.

Monshun Sales scouting reports
-One of the biggest freakshows in the country with his hulking frame and elite athletic markers.
-X wide receiver projection that can stretch defenses vertically with his speed and make contested grabs on the outside with his size.
-Took the next step as a junior and was nothing but a mismatch.
-Attacks leverage with easy acceleration.
-Powers his way through contact without having to change course.
-Levitates to snag off-target passes.
-Can run underneath the long ball, but also produce big gains in the quick perimiter game with his agility and strength.
-Shines as a move blocker on the perimeter and showcases plenty of physicality while doubling as a safety on defense.
-Must keep improving as a route runner and fine-tuning his craft, but has an extremely high ceiling with his top-end gear and catch radius.
-Projects as a potential game-wrecker for a College Football Playoff contender.
High upside wide receiver prospect with an elite combination of size and speed. Checks in at around 6-foot-4.5, 205 pounds with 32.25-inch arms and 9-inch hands. Posts excellent marks on the track, especially at his size, running 10.81 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.4 seconds in the 200 meters. A vapor trail on vertical routes. Has the potential to take the top off of defenses with regularity. Shows quality tracking skills, locating the football over his shoulder. Competitive as a blocker and physical while working as a safety. Finished his junior season with 37 catches for 794 yards and 9 touchdowns. Still adding nuance to his game as a route-runner. Would like to see him continue to add to his catch radius and become more of a mismatch in contested catch situations given his size. Has the potential to be the top wide receiver prospect in the cycle with continued development.
