IU basketball, representing the USA, rolls in exhibition ahead of FISU America Games
A revamped IU basketball roster, representing the United States, cruised to a 98-64 exhibition win on Wednesday night against Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf of Canada at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
In the first public look at the roster in front of a few thousand fans, the Hoosiers started five players who weren’t on the 2025-26 team.
Markus Burton (Notre Dame), Bryce Lindsay (Villanova), Darren Harris (Duke), Aiden Sherrell (Alabama), and Samet Yigitoglu (SMU) comprised the starting five for Darian DeVries, who is entering his second season in Bloomington.
Georgia Tech transfer Jaeden Mustaf, unavailable due to a lower-body injury, did not play.
It was a slow start for Indiana, which led 23-19 after the first quarter. Harris and Sherrell each scored five points to lead the way in the first 10 minutes.
Things picked up in the second 10-minute period as Sherrell scored nine of his team-high 14 first-half points as the Hoosiers built a 46-32 lead at intermission.
Indiana was 17-for-33 from the field in the first half, including 5-for-18 on 3s. The Hoosiers shot 7-for-10 from the free-throw line in the opening 20 minutes.
Burton added nine first-half points.
Once the Hoosiers found their rhythm in the third quarter, the lead began to balloon. A 3-point play by Trent Sisley midway through the third period stretched the lead to 21 points at 57-36.
Sisley found Harris on the left wing with just under 2:20 to play in the third quarter for a 3-pointer to give IU a 66-41 lead.
After seven straight points by Canada later in the quarter, Lindsay answered with a deep 3-pointer to make it 69-48. However, Canada nailed a 3-pointer to end the period, making it 69-51. Sisley was IU’s leading scorer in the third quarter, tallying seven points.
IU quickly pushed the lead back above 20 points early in the fourth quarter, as Harris connected on a 3-pointer to make it 72-51. After a Canadian turnover on the next possession, Lindsay connected on a transition layup to make it 74-51 with 9:05 to play, prompting a timeout.
With just under seven minutes to play and IU leading 78-53, DeVries began to empty the bench, bringing in walk-on Ben Winker for the first time. Winker, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, may need to play some minutes in Peru while Yigitoglu is unavailable.
Justin Monden, a transfer from Maryland Eastern Shore, also saw time in the fourth quarter, as did walk-ons Drew Snively and Ian Stephens.
IU will continue its preparation for its upcoming trip to the FISU America Games in Lima, Peru, over the next two days. The team will depart Bloomington on Saturday morning.
