Recruitment background

Like most transfer portal recruitments, the process moved quickly for Miles and Indiana. News broke on Monday, April 14, that he planned to visit Bloomington on Tuesday, April 15. On Wednesday, April 16, Miles announced his commitment to the Hoosiers. He was the first portal addition of the spring for Indiana with more than a season of eligibility remaining.

“It just felt right,” Miles said of his decision to commit to the Hoosiers. “As soon as I got there and heard what coach (Darian DeVries) was saying and coach’s plan. And just seeing the campus and the facilities, along with a few other factors, I just knew this was the spot that I wanted to be and that it would be the best situation for me going forward. And I’m excited to get back to campus and start working.”

Notes on his game

After playing with Chaz Lanier as a freshman in the 2023-24 season at North Florida, Miles took off as a sophomore in Jacksonville for the Ospreys.

The volume of shots Miles took increased in his second season and his efficiency improved. He went 78-for-233 on triples in his second season at North Florida, which had the highest 3-point volume of any team in the country.

His scoring output increased from 5.7 points per game as a freshman to 15.4 points per game as a sophomore and his rebounding numbers jumped from 4.2 per game to 6.8.

“I’m a great rebounder and a good shooter,” Miles told Inside the Hall. “I’m still going to improve my shooting percentage even more. Just work on mechanics and work on getting my percentage and efficiency higher. I’m great getting downhill to my right to the basket and I’m just going to keep growing that strength and confidence with my left hand. Just overall, I’m going to play hard every play and bring intensity and energy and make winning plays.”

At Indiana, Miles is unlikely to be the focal point of the offense, so it will be pivotal that his efficiency improves as he adjusts to a complementary role, at least in his first season as a Hoosier. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Miles is a foundation piece for IU as DeVries and the coaching staff look to reestablish IU as a power in the Big Ten.

Scouting report

“Rival coaches love Jasai Miles and for good reason. The 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard has terrific positional size and he knocked down 74 3-pointers last season. Miles is at his best in the open floor, but he also showed some real comfort handling the rock. Miles looks every bit the part of a future three-level scorer.” – Isaac Trotter, 247Sports

“With a 6-foot-6 athletic frame, Miles can score at all three levels. He’s comfortable shooting off the dribble and has deep range, only needing a little separation to fire with a quick release. His improvement from year one to year two stands out, increasing nearly every average and percentage.” – Inside the Hall
