Where Big Ten teams stand in updated “way too early” rankings for the 2025-26 season
We’re just under 180 days until the tip-off of the 2025-26 college basketball season.
With the transfer portal now closed for new entries and the deadline to enter the 2025 NBA draft now behind us, several “way too early” rankings for next season have been updated.
Here’s a first look at where Big Ten programs stand in the updated “way too early” rankings for the 2025-26 season:
ESPN.com: Purdue is No. 1 in the latest rankings from ESPN, followed by Michigan (No. 9), UCLA (No. 14), Wisconsin (No. 16), Illinois (No. 17) and Michigan State (No. 23). Ohio State, USC and Oregon are among the five teams listed as “next in line.”
Previously: Purdue (No. 2), Michigan (No. 5), UCLA (No. 10), Wisconsin (No. 14), Michigan State (No. 18) and Ohio State (No. 23).
On3.com: Purdue is No. 3 in the latest rankings from On3. Also in the top 25: Michigan (No. 8), Illinois (No. 15), Wisconsin (No. 22), Michigan State (No. 24) and UCLA (No. 25).
Previously: Michigan (No. 11), Purdue (No. 12), Illinois (No. 19), Wisconsin (No. 20), UCLA (No. 21) and Michigan State (No. 23).

At ESPN.com, Louisville is No. 7 and Kentucky is No. 11.
At On3.com, Kentucky is No. 4 and Louisville is No. 9.
At FoxSports.com, Louisville is No. 7 and Kentucky is No. 8.
At CBSSports.com, Kentucky is No. 11 and Louisville is No. 13.
Marquette is not in the top 25 in any of the four rankings.
